Woods Claims Need For Consistency

Woods in the WoodsThe tournament was there for the taking on the 14th hole.  It was all there for Tiger Woods to step up and claim yet another impressive victory, he just couldn’t make it happen.  Despite starting off the Quail Hollow with an impressive round, it looks like a lack of total consistency proved to be a large factor in the 4th place finish for Woods, behind the winner Sean O’Hair and tied for second, Bubba Watson and Lucas Glover.

4 Great Rounds For Victory

So consistency is lacking, according to the man himself.  When asked about the reasons he couldn’t put 4 great rounds together and take home the top spot, Tiger was vocal and honest.  Here’s what he had to say:

“I’ve been very pleased with some of my progress. I’m also not so pleased with some of it…It’s been spotty, streaky. I just need to get a little more consistent…”

3 Putt after Driving Green

And when asked about the 14th hole, where he drove the green and had an Eagle putt to share the lead, he was also vocal:

“It was baked out. I knew that,…It was downwind and I saw George (McNeill’s) putt roll out. I kept telling myself, ‘This putt is faster than it looks. It’s faster than it looks.’ And I didn’t heed my own warning…The next one I blocked again. And I made a wonderful 6-footer for my three-putt…that’s all I did for months is chip and putt…I just need to get more crisp with my driving and my long irons. The longer stuff is not where I want it.”

Consistent…Watch Out.

When the consistency re-sinks in, I’m am a bit afraid for each and every other golfer on the PGA Tour.  If an inconsistent Tiger Woods can be 2 strokes off winning it all, imagine what a consistent Tiger can come up with.
