Taylormade Japan has begun promoting their new R9 SuperMax line which launches in mid September and early October. They’ve chosen TM Japan ladies pro Makoto Takemura as the face and image of the SuperMax line. Makoto is only 20 years old and is in the midst of her first full pro season on the JLPGA tour.  She’s a great representative for the clubs, not only because she looks good but because the design of the clubs fit her style and small stature. She’s only 155cm or 5’1″ tall and under 50kg but with the new R9 SuperMax driver she consistently drives the ball around 250 yards.

The SuperMax is not really considered game improvement or over sized clubs though they are aimed at the average golfer and improving player or any player looking for ease of use and distance performance in a midsized package. The new driver, fairway woods, rescue and irons are all in the pro shop where you can check for more information and specs.

In the meantime, TM Japan has also released some promotional videos for the Japan Only R9 SuperMax line which you can watch below:

First we have the a video of Makoto testing the R9 SuperMax line along with TM Japan tour van staff and tour representatives. The video is in Japanese but they talk about how the clubs fit Makoto and the design of the SuperMax including the high MOI and distance performance.

The second video is a short commercial promoting all the clubs in the R9 SuperMax line featuring Makoto.

The clubs look to be a great match for the Japanese market where the average golfer makes the majority of the golfer population. Taylormade Japan continues to churn out Japan only products including putters, forged irons, drivers and filling the sales charts where Japanese golfers don’t hesitate to spend big yen for new clubs.

    She has a face of a dude with a name of a dude. If she took off that make up, she’d look like a man.

    I don’t know how women can swing the club with nails like that. I bet she’s not very good with irons.

    @Phil:

    GT, you’d be amazed at how many lady pros now have long as hell nails and nail art… it is a wonder how they swing and grip those clubs.

    She lost some much yardage after switching from her Tourstage driver to the Taylor Made R9 driver. Not only was she driving the ball shorter, she was driving it side ways too. My wife played with her and she said Makoto was hitting fw woods and hybrids on most of her second shot and it put so much pressure on her short game. Instead of birdie chances, most of the time she is struggling to make par. I hope the new R9 Supermax will suit her swing a little better. By the way, I met her a few times and no, she doesn’t look like a dude. She’s cute!

    I think the SuperMax for her is a far better choice… it will help her with distance. You are spot on, she struggled this year, her first on the tour, as it seemed she could not match others with the R9.

    Again Taylormade has proved that it is best at producing golf related products whether it is a driver or a club.
