Introducing Seven Hills Golf…

Seven Hills is a new brand that focuses currently on creating premium performance wedges and irons at affordable prices. I’m glad to say that Tourspecgolf is involved with Seven Hills in both the club designs and aesthetic appearance of all their clubs. We’ve taken the knowledge we’ve gained from offering the best golf clubs Japan has to offer and the feedback from all our members and customers to create clean high performance clubs with premium feel.  All Seven Hills wedges and irons are forged in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture at Kyoei. Himeji is a smaller city which is the home to many companies small and large involved in the steel industry both forging and casting.  Just north of Himeji are are many mountains including Mount Shosha,  home to the ancient temple Engyoji, which has over 1000 years of history. To the west of this ancient shrine is are hills featuring 7 high peaks which Seven Hills has gotten Zen like inspiration from.

My test build…

Seven Hills has made about 30 pieces of the first prototype wedge. It doesn’t really have a name yet so we can call it the dancing prototype or prototype Version 1. It’s available in 4 lofts, 52/6 56/10 58/12 and 60/8. I received a 52/6 and 58/12 for testing. Head weights are optimized for builds with heavier shafts at longer lengths with swing weight varying anywhere from D2-D5 or D6 depending on the final length and shaft chosen. I’ll document the build here just like I did with my Crazy shafts. First let’s take a look at the dancing proto’s design.

Versatile Grind…

The Seven Hills Prototype Dancing wedges have a straight neck with very little offset, and a  teardrop shape with slightly boxier toe. They are satin finished and of course have conforming V grooves since they are meant to be tour level, athlete golfer models.  They feature an M style grind which has a smaller forward bounce area with trailing edge relief. This reduces contact and friction making it easy to swing through any lie. The lower bounce of 6* on the 52* wedge make it an ideal approach wedge whether it be a full swing or pitch and run. The higher bounce 12* on the 58* allows the sand wedge to open its face and excel in the bunkers or for higher lob shots thanks to the  narrow sole and trailing relief. We believe this combination of grind and bounce create the most versatile wedge for many different conditions.

Clean looks and finish…

I’m happy with the overall design of the wedge as it takes the popular and vesatile TVD like grind and puts it in a smaller premium forged tear drop package. We figured everyone likes dancing letters and a clean look so we refrained from putting loft and bounce numbers on the sole and rather had them on the back face matching the dancing name. I’m currently gaming Fourteen J.SPEC II forged wedges and putting them side by side with the Seven Hills wedge, the Fourteen looks large and thick, with much more offset.  I will be trying these heads with a variety of shafts to figure out their performance characteristcs, including KBS Hi-Rev, Nippon WV105, and Shimada K’s Wedge. I thought of trying them out with some graphite or lightweight steel but these wedges target the good player where most likely a heavier steel shaft will be used.

I’ll post soon how the build goes with these wedges including lengths and swing weight as well as of course feel and performance feedback. In the meantime here are some pics!
