Round 3 Scores Continue To Fall at HP Byron Nelson

SabbatiniLooks like the fact that some of golf’s biggest names are noticably absent doesn’t matter one single bit at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, there is some amazing golf being played and the scores just keep getting lower, and lower.  Considering that last year the winner took home the trophy after putting up a total score of -7, I think we’re going to blow that out of the water this year.

Round 2 Ends…Round 3 Begins

At the close of play yeseterday, Round 2 came to an end with a two-way tie for the lead between Rory Sabbatini and John Mallinger.  Both men played extremely well, including some breathtaking scrambling by Sabbatini that saved him a par before he went on a 4-in-a-row birdie streak to take the lead.  What many were wondering, however, was not how the leaders were playing, but what in the world was going on with Adam Scott.

Where is Scott?!

Scott, last year’s winner of the HP Bryon Nelson Championship, has been virtually non-existent this year on the PGA Tour.  After the cut line was set at -1 for this tournament, he once again failed to meet it and saw his tournament hopes end at Round 2.  According to reports:

“Since a runner-up finish at the Sony Open in Hawaii in January and two World Golf Championships events that have no cuts, Scott has missed the cut and gone without a paycheck his last six tournaments.”

Wow.  All of us are left wondering what exactly is going on with Scott and hope that whatever is troubling him and his game goes away soon, he’s a great golfer and exciting to watch when all cylinders are firing.  Now, however, Round 3 is still raging on and the scores being posted just keep getting lower and lower.

Two-Way Tie for Lead

Sitting on a two-way tie for the lead as of time of writing are Dustin Johnson and Rory Sabbatini who has expanded on his -8 Round 2 score by going an additional 5-under-par so far today to share the lead at -13.  Mallinger isn’t out of it yet, he’s also added to his great Round 2 play and is sitting at -11, only two strokes off the lead with 7 more holes to play.

Close Finish in the Works…

Tune in folks, it’s going to be another tight finish at the Byron.
