PRGR RS Forged Irons – When it comes to technology and design PRGR is always pushing the envelope. In this head alone we have an S25C forged body with a rolled maraging steel ES235 face. The inner cavity design is a patented technology called Flash One that features a vibration dampening material within. As you can see above the setup at address is beautiful. PRGR is using a 4.0 face progression design so yes there is a little bit of offset along with it’s slightly thicker top-line but considering this is a dual piece head with a lot going on within this is as small as it comes.
It isn’t a blade it’s a player cavity but the top mens pro’s on the Japan tour that are sponsored by PRGR bag this. This year PRGR’s line up is getting powerful reviews from the top players and casual golfers in Japan.
Looking at the sole straight on you can see an unusual curve in it’s trailed leading edge along with a nice amount of killed leading edge, this helps the club sit differently at address and also makes the sole more narrow.
#4-9 iron are have that inner cavity while the PW is solid 1 piece good ol S25C Forged. Then leading to the wedges which are a stunning dark black with a herring bone laser milled face PRGR has pulled out all the stops and though over everything to the extreme detail. I’m sorry I don’t have photos of the wedges.
The base set is 5-PW with optional #4, 51* and 57* matching wedges. I think more brands should do it this way and design flowing and dedicated wedges to match individual iron sets. The lofts are a touch strong with the PW coming in at 45* and when you combine that with the maraging steel face you have a set of players cavities with plenty of distance and forgiveness.
Remember that PRGR has the absolute longest and most forgiving irons in the PRGR Super Egg’s and their new RS series drivers are tops in Japan with non biased reviewers reporting real world distance gains over Japan’s other top drivers.
So this year it’s PRGR RS vs Bridgestone Tour-B vs Srixon Z series vs Yamaha UD. Battle of the big brands and based on the complete line up and technology in use It seems PRGR is the winner.
