Two days ago, President Obama announced a brand new plan called United We Serve that he created to try to encourage and activate millions of Americans, young and old, to step up and start helping out communities all over the country. Community service is something that is extremely necessary, but unfortunately not very popular. The PGA Tour is stepping in to try to help out on the latter as they’ve officially joined the United We Stand campaign.
PGA Tour Joins Obama In Helping America
That’s right, the PGA Tour has become an active partner in spreading this message and trying to get it’s millions of fans active and helping out as well. They join a lot of other professional sports teams, entertainment industries and large companies in trying to really make a change. In a quote released by the PGA’s Commissioner, Tim Finchem, he said:
“As part of our ‘Together, anything’s possible’ platform, the PGA TOUR already has more than 100,000 volunteers working through TOUR events to better the communities in which they live, making it a natural fit for the TOUR to support this broader initiative brought forth by President Obama…We thank the President for making this call to service this summer and beyond, and we will work together in support of this effort.”
In addition to using their media assets, from “in-telecast PSAs, PGATOUR.COM, SIRIUS XM Radio spots, electronic tournament scoreboards”, they will also use a variety of their tournaments to operate as food drives. The Food Drive tournaments will include the Wyndham Championship, The Barclays, Deutsche Bank Championship on the PGA Tour, the Christmas in October Classic, Northeast Pennsylvania Classic on the Nationwide Tournament, and on the Champion’s Tour, the JELD-WEN Tradition, Boeing Classic, Walmart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach tournaments.
