Nikon D5100 First Time Lapse Attempt

The Nikon D5100 has a built in intervalometer meaning its capable of taking images at fixed intervals. Using these images one can make what is called a time lapse video. I’ve always wanted to try time lapse but none of my previous cameras were able to do so without an external remote of some kind. Its been hot like hell with not a cloud in the sky in the last few days but this morning there was a slight breeze and clouds rolling in the sky. So I thought why not try and do my first ever time lapse?

I grabbed the tripod and set the camera up on the veranda and switched to manual settings. I aimed the camera towards the sky and set the aperture at f16 and manually focused to infinity. I then set the intervalometer to 5 second intervals between shots and 450 shots. Didn’t turn out so bad for the first time. Now I just need to shoot some time lapse in Tokyo and get a real video editing program (this is done in Windows movie maker so its not even HD) and throw in some music!

    Many thanks for your info.
Could you please tell me which settings you have used on the camera and on the software to edit it?
On my youtube channel, I’ve made quite a lot already with the D5100 but I can get a proper quality… Do you know why?
How to get the right HD format?

    Thanks in advance,
