Yesterday we went over just about every new detail you can find about the newly announced and upcoming Nike Method Putters.  We talked about how there will be 5 different models, including the Anser style blade we saw, as well as two other blades and two mallets.  We know that they are using brand new technology that is combining steel and polymer for the very first time and putting very visible and very large grooves on the face.  We know that Nike claims that this will provide the best and fastest forward roll of any of their putters and increasing accuracy for those that demand it.  What we don’t know, however, is if it’s worth the hype for all the rest of us.

Nike Method Putter Already Making Waves

It’s easy to step back and look at the fact that the prototype of the Nike Method putter has already won two major championship titles and three other Tour victories worldwide, but what we don’t know is whether or not the new technology and the new grooves will translate into that much better putting for everyone else that Doesn’t carry a PGA Tour Card.

Lots Of Great Golf Tech Out There

Furthermore, is the “leap” they are claiming forward in technology actually that impressive, or important?  There are a wide variety of grooves being used on a wide variety of putters, all of which have their own versions of golf grooves, milled faces and inserts that all claim to do amazing things with consistency, speed, forward roll and MOI.  Milled faces help provide a much softer feel upon impact, and the inserts being used are doing the exact same thing.  Even brands like Mizuno are offering “Feel Impact Technology” that aims to give you a solid and soft feel, while increasing your forward roll.

Next Big Thing or Just Next Thing?

Bottom line, there is a lot of great putter technology out there, and with the amount of hype and buzz the Nike Method is gaining, you’ve got to wonder if it truly is the Next Big Thing or if it’s just the Next Thing, so it’s Big.  We’re not sure yet as we’ve yet to even get our hands on one, but at $250 and having to wait until February to even have a shot at owning one, we’re going to hold out judgment.  It’s easy to jump on board the hype wagon, it’s not so easy to earn a ticket aboard.

New golf clubs, including this one, are 95% HYPE. For instance, how many golf clubs (and golf balls) have been touted as longer, straighter, more control. Fortunately for the manufacturers, there are plenty of golfers out there who think they can BUY a golf game, or who’s ego requires the newest, most expensive thing.
