Nathan Green Takes First Tour Victory @ Lengthy RBC Canadian Open

Nathan GreenIt.  Is.  Finally.  Over.  What was arguably the longest, most drawn out tournament in recent memory, with weather delays, slow play and now, a final round Monday Playoff to determine the winner, the RBC Canadian Open has just now come to an end and provided a great finish, as well as a great victory for Nathan Green’s first ever PGA Victory.

Goosen & Green Take It To Playoffs

In the end, it took two playoff holes to determine the outcome and the battle between Green and Retief Goosen was a great one.  The two battled through 4 agonizingly delayed rounds to end up dead-locked at -18 under par, both posting impressive and extremely low four-round 270.  When the playoff holes finally came, the first hole saw the two replaying the 18th hole they both just played, only this time instead of Eagle/Par, the two went Par/Par and had to take it to the second sudden-death playoff hole, hole 17.

Second Playoff Hole Decides It All

On 17, things got a little bit more interesting and while Green was extremely accurate and gave himself a birdie opportunity, he had to settle for par after his putt went off.  Goosen, on the other hand, missed the fairway on his drive, flew the green on his second shot and ended up chipping on and giving himself a shot at extending the playoff to another hole.  Unfortunately, just as he did on the first playoff hole, Goosen pushed his putt and ended up missing, giving Green his first ever victory.

Green Takes It Home

After the dust had settled, Green was short and to the point with his emotional feelings on his first ever victory:

“It’s a huge surprise to finally win…I’m over the moon.”

Over the moon, but his feet on the ground.  Great place to be.  Congrats Green, and well played Goosen.
