calc_storyLooks like records, as they say, are meant to be broken and the RBC Canadian Open just played host to one record that many people wondered if it could ever be broken.  That’s right, the longest streak for most consecutive birdies has officially been snapped, and now sits proudly at 9 straight holes.  Congratulations go to Mark Calcavecchia for breaking that record, that has been stuck at 8 holes in a row, a feat that was shared by six different players and spanning back to 1961.

9 Straight But Can’t Hold On

That said, his record breaking birdie run also put him right in the hunt for this rain soaked and often delayed RBC Canadian Open.  Talk about delayed, it’s had over 10 hours of weather delays just to try to get Round 2 taken care of, which is still going as we speak.  That said, Calcavecchia did put himself back in the hunt at -10 after his birdie run but couldn’t hold on and ended up finishing his second round at -8, 5 strokes off the current leader at -13.

Jason Dufner Finds 7 Birdies and an Eagle in 13 Holes

Speaking of current leader, Jason Dufner is still finishing up his second round, but through 15 holes, he’s looking sharp and still sits a stroke ahead of Jerry Kelly, who has been playing great golf this weekend and doesn’t seem to be phased by the weather in any way, shape, or form.  Dufner has also been playing amazing golf, and while he didn’t break a Tour Record today, he did have 7 birdies and an eagle through his first 13 holes of the day.  Talk about great shot making.  That play has him locked into first place, but whether or not he can make it through the rest of the second round on top remains to be seen.

No More Rain!

Once again, will the weather hold, or will the RBC suffer even more weather delays?  Not sure, but tune in, there is some great golf being played.
