Life Magazine Picks All-Time Top 10 Greatest Golfers

GeneGolf.com and Golf Magazine, as well as many others have tried to do it, and we’ve talked about it.  Now, Life Magazine is doing it too, this time, however, they’re going with 10 instead of 20.  That’s right, Life Magazine is picking the Top 10 Greatest Golfers of All-Time, according to them, and we’re interested to see just how accurate they really are.

Life’s List is Spot-On

Yep, another Top 10 list, however this one is a bit different in that it’s Life Magazine that’s doing it.  They are one of the longest-running, most respected and classy magazines that has also taken and run some of the most famous golf photos of all time.  Bottom line is, when they decide to throw together a Top 10 list on anything, it’s going to be extremely well-researched, extremely accurate and just plain cool.

The Top 10 Greatest Golfers…For Now

Nevertheless, here’s the 10 golfers, in order from Greatest to, well, 10th Greatest according to Life Magazine:

  1. Jack Nicklaus
  2. Tiger Woods
  3. Ben Hogan
  4. Bobby Jones
  5. Sam Snead
  6. Byron Nelson
  7. Arnold Palmer
  8. Gary Player
  9. Walter Hagen
  10. Gene Sarazen

If you look close, you’ll notice this Top 10 list is very close to the Top 10 list that Golf.com previously assembled.  With a few people sliding around and switching places, it’s interesting to see how the golf community can pretty much agree on the Top 10 or 15 golfers that have ever played the sport, although exactly what order and hierarchy seems to change depend on just who you ask.

When Will Tiger Be #1?

We asked this question once, and we’ll ask it again:  At what point will Tiger Woods overtake the Golden Bear?  When will his achievements overshadow and outshine every other player on that list?  The most frightening thing is, at his young age and with how much time he has left on the tour, we’re NOT that far away from it already.  Still, Jack Nicklaus won 18-Majors, and just as impressively, was runner-up at 19 more.  Tiger’s still got some work cut out for him.  For now.
