Honma Blade Irons

We have the entire Honma Tour World Series Collection here in one post.  It’s not often I get to shoot an entire series from top to bottom so I figured I would post a brief summary of what Honma offers for the athlete golfer.

Starting with the above picture that is the TW717M Muscle Back Iron forged of soft carbon,  made in Japan at Sakata Factory.  It features a compact head with classic Muscle Back design to provide a penetrating ball flight.  The TW717M has Minimal offset to allow for workability in both directions and a thin top line preferred by tour professionals.  It also comes with a unique chrome plated, half satin finish for reduced glare in the sunlight.

Honma Cavity Back

Above the players cavity in the line up the TW717V which I do own and they feel sublime at impact.  It’s got a lower CG than the MB yet still provides a strong trajectory.  Small enough to be appreciated by the pros.  Soft Forged,  thin top line,  extra mass designed behind the sweet spot with a rounded sole for smooth flow across any surface.

TW717P

Above the Honma TW717P,  It’s the undercut and most forgiving CB in the TW line up.  Don’t let that fool you though as it sets up really well still having that thin top line and minimal offset.  While it is considered the largest head in this TW series it’s actually a smaller mid sized head.  It’s got a 2 piece structure with a soft forged body for feel and feedback with a maraging stainless steel face for extra distance and forgiveness.

TW-W Wedges Honma

The TW-W Wedge is the latest in the Honma wedge line up, designed with the input of professional tour players.  It features a soft cast head that Honma has been known for.   The TW-W features a classice tear drop shape with a long hosel that is preferred by may of the better players.  The 56 and 58 degree models feature a special grind where the sole is made flat to promote great flow through any type of lie.

TW717 430

The TW717 430 driver is the smallest in the line up featuring a high back,  deep face and smaller more pear headed shape.   Made with a 4 piece construction,  variable face thickness and a thin crown keeping weight doen and putting more emphasis on the 13gram internal weighting.   Quick suggestion,  try it with the Vizard Shaft even though it’s name is silly.

TW717 455

This 455cc TW717 is an interesting one,  of the bunch it was the only one made at Endo yet finished at Sakata Factory.  It’s got totally different materials and technology than the other two 717 drivers.   It’s also a 4 piece construction just with a chemically milled crown,  VL Titanium face material and dual fusion face tech.  It maintains it’s player shape yet has a lot of forgiveness and feel.

The 460 above looks more rounded,  obviously larger yet still have a square face angle,  it’s toe and heel areas are expanded compared to the 455 version.  This one is basically designed for the average player who wants a slight draw bias and lots of forgiveness yet it still packs a mid trajectory.

TW717 Fairway Wood matches the Tour World line of drivers and is made for a combination of distance, forgiveness and control. It features a head design and finish that matches the drivers for a smooth transition between clubs.   It’s got a forged cup face which makes it feel awesome,  it’s a more compact head size at 158cc in the 3 wood and features a rounded leading edge for better turf interaction.

TW-U

Very similar to the 717 fairway wood is the utility wood.  It has similar technology and design features as the TW fairway wood but it doesn’t have the forged cup face.  It’s does have a smaller more compact and workable form factor.

Honma Golf TW-U Utility Iron

The Honma 717 TW-U,  one of my favorite driving irons,  So you really have 2 options when it comes to utility clubs in the TW series,  this  head features a compact design made to set up like an iron while having much more forgiveness than the traditional long irons.   It’s setup is fairly similar to a long iron,  I would suggest this for players who hit irons better than they do woods in exchange for the hybrid wood type of utility club.
