Hello from Nagano!

We’ve been on the road since early this morning leaving Kiminomori around 6:15am and traveling up through Chiba then through Tokyo followed by Gunma Prefecture. This afternoon my wife and I arrived in Nagano, home of the 1998 Winter Olympics. It’s a rainy day today and we’ve missed the peak of the changing fall colors by just a few weeks (though the colors still look great!). However, its great to take some time off away from work. Tourspecgolf.com is an internet business meaning its open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. It sure feels like we all work that much as well! Seven day work weeks and odd hours can catch up to ones body so my wife decided to book a trip to Nagano and the historic village of Shirakawa Go so I could get away from my computer and get a little rest and recovery.

I packed along my little Vaio P notebook anyway in my camera bag. The Vaio P has a has a Docomo 3G connection which seems a  it slow here in the countryside. So here I am just saying hello from a leisure standpoint and not to talk golf. Just a heads up to those who have emailed me that I will most likely respond in over 24 hours. We did spend the afternoon at Zenkoji Temple where even with the rain I was able to take some nice street photos of the area surrounding the temple. I’ve posted a few pictures below, all taken in jpeg and straight from my Sony a33 with no editing (just resized) as the Vaio P doesn’t quite have the horsepower for image post processing.

We’re now in Hakuba at a hotel in the mountains. Hakuba was the location of the ski jump and alpine downhill events back at the Olympics. I hope to be able to take some nice mountain shots as well as village shots at Shirakawa tomorrow. Heading off now to enjoy the  Japanese hot springs so I’ll see you guys later! In the meantime here are the images from Zenkoji streets (I’ll post actual temple pics another time).

I looks like a beautiful place and would love to visit there. My questions for you is this though. As an true southern boy from Nashville TN could I survive there with the language barrier? Took the family to Costa Rica on vacation last year and the whole trip my family kept laughing at me everytime I said hello in Spanish. I finally ask why and they told me I was saying the number eight instead of hello. It became so funny I just kept doing it. Heck I will admit I am all southern boy but proud of it as well.
