Fourteen-Wedge-Limited-Bann

Fourteen Golf has just announced the release of a new limited edition series wedge named the MT28 T.S Spec RT. The MT28 RT wedge will be released in early december with only 2000 sets produced world wide.

The new RT wedge is considered a professional specification wedge that features a reverse taper shape grind that gives a more accurate and higher center of gravity. The grind implemented on the sole is designed to suite any lie or situation.  The grind is very versitile allowing the player to open up the face yet has a multi bounce sole giving you higher bounce with manipulation yet the wedges leading edge still sit’s flat when grounded.

There is no plating on this wedge it is a black finish that will wear and this is exactly what most pro level players desire due to the feedback produced on both good and bad shots.  It is indeed a forged club but of a different type of material, Fourteen lists it as a nickel-chrome molybdenum steel ( not sure what that is  but It’s supposed to be very soft at impact and easy to bend ).

We say multi bounce because there are multiple bounce numbers based on where the number is measured from but Fourteen calls this Twin Sole the first part is the trailing edge relief that allows the golfer to open the face, the second part of the ” Twin” is the flat portion of the sole that gives you parallel stability when manipulating the club head. It’s supposed to help when you open and close the face giving the wedge a bigger area to meet the ground coming in at the same angle. If the top of that wedge was too rounded the sole and ground can meet in an inconsistent manner. This type of sole is for the better player and expert who really enjoy working the ball.

Reverse Taper Blade

The reverse taper blade is designed to give the golfer a more piercing trajectory in scoring shots but also allows the player to get out of the rough easier. Traditional wedges place most of the mass directly behind the lower portion of the wedge and this area is often caught in the deep stuff which may open your face after impact. This special grind gives mass to the top portion so that the wedges head comes through the rough more evenly.

Optimal Face Shape

With the help of many Japanese and American Tour Players Fourteen has come up with what they call the optimal head shape for the better player. The area left of center gives the player more confidence due to its shape, today many better players hit slightly inside the center or closer to the heel and fourteen has created the look of confidence for those who do. The leading edge has a slightly rounded shape similar to a butter knife which was requested by players on the PGA Tour as well as JPGA Tour.

Trapezoid Score Lines

It’s a groove design that is only used by fourteen now that offers USGA & R&A new rule conforming wedges yet with very sharp edges giving you a good amount of spin. The machine used to produce this amount of spin while still meeting new 2010 groove rules is called the mirror surface milling machine.

TS-Spec

Sold in a 3 wedge set for a pretty penny at around 800 USD it comes with a fancy box and each wedge is stamped it 0001, 0014, etc.. The standard shaft is a Dynamic Gold wedge shaft and the loft/bounce make up is 48/7*, 53/9*, 58/14*. Keep in mind these are multi bounce soles and can be manipulated during play to be more versitile.

I like the look and design of these wedges. What I really appreciate is that they’re made to have a lower trajectory. I’m always looking for wedges with a much lower trajectory. Its much more controllable and predictable and leads to better scoring
