New AF502 Forged Iron Released!

epon-502-stock-imageOn the 15th of November Epon Golf released their new AF-302 & 502 iron sets.  In this post we will be going over what makes the new 502 so special and innovative. For those of you who are not familiar with the Epon brand it’s actually a golf equipment brand that has been around for decades in Japan. Their parent company Endo manufacturing is undisputedly the highest quality manufacture of golf clubs in the world located in Niigata Japan.

The 502 irons are precision forged of soft S20C Japanese steel and carry the desired hardness rating of HRB80 which means its uber soft and rewarding at impact. Eventually Epon plans to phase out the 501 model for this new 502.  The 502 has a face made of a high COR super spring steel material that provides loads of rebound giving maxium distance like their 701 model irons.  Epon also implemented a new Alpha Gel into the 502’s hollow body which makes each loft feel much softer at impact.

Epon-502-top-lineIf your intrigued by its design and style you may be asking what type of player it fits,  its design is suitable for a wide range of golfer but specifically its for the player who wants minimal offset, a thin topline, forgiveness, and very long yet controlable distance. You can move down to the 302 iron if you want something smaller and more compact or you can move up to the 701 if you desire semi game improvement design to aid your play. Whatever the case rest assured that when you purchase Epon product you are buying the best quality that Japan  and the world has to offer.

Epon is not cheap, due to it’s J.I.S grade materials, original concept design and cutting edge technology used be prepared to pay the big bucks to park these in your bag.

    @ELee:

    Yes your right, actually several brands have done it, maybe not the same alpha gel but a vibration absorbing gel.

    The face is As Roll super spring steel. Is As Roll the same as forged? Does it mean the face is welded to the SS frame or back?

    The AS roll steel is rolled without any red hot heating. It’s cut out by a press machine and welded to the frame and back. The Frame and Back is one piece.

    It is laser welded so that there is no heat on the face but only the perimeter of the face.

    Your MessageI
    I would like to know the differentiate between 501 and 502. I hit both of them already. I think the 502 is softer but 501 is more solid. I prefered 6 iron up as 502 because it has no pocket. Do u really think that it is better than 501?

    @claude:
    I’m guessing sometime in 2011. In the past they have releases once a year.
