Brian Gay Starts Round 3 @ St. Jude Classic Strong

Brian GayRounds 1 and 2 are in the books, despite a lengthy storm delay that included some pretty frightning moments involving tornado sirens and severe weather alerts, and it looks like Round 3 is looking to pick up exactly where Round 2 left off…with some exciting play and some very low scores.  As you know, the cut line has already been drawn and those that couldn’t muster up a score of Even par or better have been sent packing, narrowing the field down by quite a bit, and keeping with it, among others, John Daly and Phil Mickelson.

Phil & Daly See Roller Coaster Rounds

Throughout Round 2, Mickelson had a few stretches of great golf, and a few of not-so-great holes but overall held strong and got through the second round two ahead of the cut line and sitting at -2, well behind the lead but still a great showing considering the emotional hurricane he’s been weathering as of late.  Daly also had a rollercoaster round that saw the best and worst a golf round can offer.  His round included an eagle, three birdies, a bogey and a double bogey.  So far today things are looking a bit better but still well off the pace he’d need to make a splash at the St. Jude.

Brian Gay Continues Dominance

When it comes to a splash, however, one person has continued to splash, and that is Brian Gay.  After shooting an opening round 64, he followed it up with a second round 66 and propelled himself into the lead at -10.  Things look much the same today as he’s already an additional two-under-par for Round 3 thus far, through only the first 5 holes of his round.  Although he only has a two stroke lead over Robert Allenby, his play continues to impress and I wouldn’t be shocked to see him post another extremely low score today.

Not Watching? You’re Missing Out

Whatever happens, it’s going to get exciting and if you’re not watching, you’re missing out on some impressive (Brian Gay) and some extremely emotional (Phil Mickelson) play.  It’s a beautiful Saturday afternoon, why not spend it indoors watching golf?  Why not indeed?
