I spoke to TM the other day and arranged for them to send me the new R9 TP Forged for review along with the current R9, Burner Forged and Burner TP iron so it’ll be good to get some comparison pictures of all the new releases. The standard R9 Forged is slated for May so there is no test iron available yet. I’ll also have a new Nike Machspeed Forged iron that Nike Japan is sending me this week on hand so it will be a fun test. The R9 TP Forged is slated for an early March release. As many of you saw and still see the fiasco TM Japan has going with the lack of availability of the Burner TP, it is highly suggested to pre order the R9 TP Forged if you want a set. Pre order will be up this weekend.

Along with the Forged TP we will also being seeing Japan’s version of the new 5 piece ball dubbed FIVE TP. Japan will also see a new Monza Spider… yes yet another model (I think there were like 5 variations released last year…). With the Spider Vicino coming out we will also see an oversize Spider Max AGSI model which provides high MOI and stability.

We’ve got more official TM pictures of the the R9 TP Forged and it definitely has that very clean look everyone desires.

This looks EXACTLY like the 2009 TP forged .. the specs are EXACTLY the same as well .. so is there any difference?

    Hi Edward,

You are indeed right they look very similar. TM has a tendency to keep many specs the same especially if they find the work with consumers. Design wise its hard to say until we get one in person, which will be next week. Even with the specs, we can see the face progression is the same but that has carried over even from the 2008 model to the 2009 then to the new 2010. Changes typically are the grind, sole, top line and face width, position of the CG as well as design changes such as milled cavity which was in 2009 but does not seem to be on the R9 TP Forged. And finally the R9 TP Forged have the new grooves.
