Many Golfers stateside have never heard of the Crazy Shaft brand from Japan. I must admit off the start I thought the graphics were cool some of the best to ever be placed on a golf shaft but would substance follow design?

In the last 2 years Crazy has exploded in Japan becoming one of the top 5 shaft companiesand in many retail stores across Japan the #1 seller over Diamana, Graphite Design, and Fujikura. How could such a new company infiltrate the hard to penetrate Japanese golf market? To sum that up in one word… ” Performance “ pure and simple.

The brand is basically broken down into the Crazy Black Series & Longest Yard Series, each series has driver specific shafts and fairway wood specific shafts. Crazy does also have models like the Black Utility, Black Iron, Longest Yard Iron, and the  Black FW80.

What makes the brand so special is it’s high modulus 80 ton carbon they use to manufacture it producing an ultra high performance shaft. Very few shafts use 80T because its very expensive. It allows the shaft to stay extremely stable during the swing even with higher torque and lighter weight specifications.  Their new flagship model the  Crazy Black 80 ( not 80 grams ) also called the CB80 consists of 12-15 layers of these 80T sheets for its full length.  To provide some reference against other shaft brands very few have used the 80T material, most use 25-40. The only other shafts we know of using this high end of carbon is the  Quadra Fire Express & Fujikura BangVoo model.  Below we have the numbers on the new CB80 Black Series by Crazy Shafts.

The CB80 is also available in an 80HS which controls spin better to produce a higher ball flight, the 80t carbonkeeps the spin in check so that you don’t fly all over the place, another is the 80LS (W) which is a heavier shaft highly suggested for fairway wood play.

Crazy also makes shats using 50T carbon which cost a couple of hundred dollar less but are still in no way cheap.  Same full length design at a slightly lower price point.  These are no slouch by any means because they still feature carbon far above and beyond what most shaft makers use.

The Longest Yard is designed for the golfer that desires pure distance with stable shape and control. They consider theselong drive competition shafts shafts in Japan and they rank #1 for this purpose. The newest Longest Yard model called the Super Longest Yardeven has a different flex rating that moves away from L,R,S,SR,S,X,SX,X,XX,XXX flexes that crazy usually produces, they now call the new SUPER LONGEST YARD’s flexes Hard, Super Hard and Ultra Hard.  Check out the specs below.

The Longest Yard series is available in a fairway wood model and graphite iron shaft model just like the black series. The longest yard iron shafts are available in the 70-80 gram range as well as a lighter version coming in around 50 grams. If you are one to play graphite shafts these produce big distance and excellent feel.  If your a faster swing or stronger player have a look at the Crazy Black Iron shafts there are two versions one in  the 90-100g range and the other from 100-110 grams.

Crazy not only features golf shafts  but they also have a new 435cc long driver just released as well as golf bag’s, high end golf shoes, apparel, and accessories. There is a lot more to cover about the Crazy Shaft brand and we will get to that in the future here at GTI so stay tuned.

Just a quick note that Crazy also has lower affordable 40t shafts like the Crazy Blue and Red as well. 40t is still considered on the high end of mainstream shafts. The Bangvoo is actually 70t so the only other true full 80t shaft right now is the Quadra Fire Express.

Also keep in mind that while Crazy targets very fast swingers and hard hitters, it does not rule out average swingers looking for more distance. LY-1 or Longest Yard 01 is available in R, R2, R3 and L flex as well for the slower swingers.

Hi, which would your recommand, longest yard or LS2? Would I able to install it on a VG3, if purchase from TSG? Thinking of LS 2 or longest yard on a VG3 11 degree. I hit my current driver average 240-250 meters. Thanks

Hi, with my current set up, my tracjacrory is ok, but not accurate. Distance wise I feel like I can increase another 20 meters. Just need a good setup. I have a fast tempo, with lot of lag. Please advice
