tom-watsonLooks like the spark just won’t go out for Tom Watson.  The same fire he brought to the British Open, the same fire that sparked his amazing play and brought him all the way to one 8-foot putt from winning it all and shocking the golf world, is still blazing today.  That’s right, the first round of the Senior British Open is in the books and it looks like Tom Watson’s play is showing signs of the brilliance he showed with the younger crowd, and now sits amongst the leaders.

Watson One Stroke Off Lead

That’s right, round 1 is in the books and right now Tom Watson is only one stroke off the lead after shooting an opening round, 3-under-par, 67.  Wow.  Looks like the 4 days between now and when he missed that famous 8-footer have been plenty for him to clear his mind, and come back out and shoot some amazingly impressive golf.  Sitting directly in front of Watson right now is Jay Haas and Loren Roberts, but he is currently tied with Tom Kite, Jerry Bruner, Greg Norman and Sam Torrance.  Again.  Wow.

RBC Canadian Open Delayed Due to Weather

So meanwhile, what’s going on on the PGA Tour?  Simple, yet another delay due to weather.  Shocked?  No, and neither are we.  It looks like currently play got suspended after only about 6 holes were notched, and the leader is sitting at -2.  John Merrick was able to drop to 2-under-par before the horn sounded, and word is that play should resume, if the weather permits it, at 3:10 local time.  Of course this all depends as to whether or not Mother Nature decides to let play continue and close off the waterworks long enough for some real golf to be played.  One thing is for sure, the sheer number of tournaments that have been directly affected by bad weather is getting a bit ridiculous.

Stay Tuned…

So, stay tuned for more about the RBC Canadian Open and more on Tom Watson’s play at the Senior British Open.  Amazing how his play in the British Open last week has completely re-ignited a fire to follow Senior Golf.  Who would have thought?
