Groove Extension Approved!

GTI has just confirmed via two of Asia’s biggest factories that current groove rule for USGA sanctioned events has been extended by one year.

For those not following this story it actually has a huge impact on the game of golf.  The USGA originally proposed a groove revision that would require all clubs to be made to this standard after January 1, 2010. However, the USGA then recommend a “Condition of Competition” go into effect January 1, 2009 that would allow committees to require newly conforming clubs in events for “highly skilled players.”

Play away until the day…

Now it appears that it would be such a financial burden on official equipment manufactures to conform by these rules especially in todays economic situation in time so the USGA has made a revision to allow USGA events to allow today’s sharp and deep grooves into play until the end of 2010.  So from where it stands now it appears that Jan 1st 2011 is the day anyone who plays in a sanctioned event will have to use the new groove pattern.

Thank god because many of us who play those events would be disqualified if we didnt know about it or have to go out and buy new conforming wedges that are not even on the mass market yet. Many people dont know about this extension so please let them know if the topic comes up.

GTI will keep you posted with inside information coming from reliable sources.
