Justin Leonards BagIf you’ve ever read our blog, you know we’re always extremely interested in exactly what clubs players are using to achieve their results.  Sometimes we take a peek into the bag of the winner, sometimes we just like to drop in and look and see who’s using the new goods.  This fine Sunday, we’re taking a peek into current Valero Texas Open contender Justin Leonards golf bag.  With a few exceptions, the entire bag is Nike dominated.

What Was Justin Leonard Playing?

So what exactly IS inside his bag?  Let’s take a look:

DRIVER: Nike SQ Dymo STR9-FIT (9.5°) with UST ATTAS X shaft
FAIRWAY METALS: TaylorMade Burner (15°), Nike SQ II (17°) with Fujikura Vista Pro X shafts
HYBRID: Nike Pro Combo Tungsten (20°) with True Temper Dynamic Gold S400 shaft
IRONS: Nike Victory Red Forged Blades (4-PW) with True Temper Dynamic Gold S400 shafts
WEDGES: Nike Victory Red (54°, 60°) with True Temper Dynamic Gold S400 shafts
PUTTER: Nike Victory Red prototype
BALL: Nike One Tour

Why Those Clubs?

When asked about why he chose what he chose for the Valero Texas Open this year, Leonard had some extremely intelligent things to say about his selections, saying:

“This is a shorter course, so I know I’m going to hit a lot more short irons. More 8-irons and 9-irons, more wedges.”

Great Set, Great Play

Things worked out pretty well for Leonard and that golf bag, and while he didn’t win, he did manage to come within two shots of taking it home.  Nevertheless, good looking set of clubs Justin, and nice playing this week.
