VG3 Forged Irons

Titleist VG3 Forged Japan Only Irons – Introducing the new 2016 VG3’s by Titleist.  Only offered in Japan the VG3 series is geared toward the mid to low handicap player the forged version as seen in these photos features very little offset yet with a rounded somewhat thick topline it’s forged head has a progressive cavity with short irons having no undercut while the mid to long irons have a deeper CNC milled undercut for extra added forgiveness.  The soles of the mid to long irons also feature embedded tungsten weighting spread optimally across the entire sole area making these very forgiving and lowering the trajectory which blends well with it’s stronger lofts somewhat the same combo used in the Titleist T-MB 716 irons, but these are not stainless steel or hollow like the T-MB they are soft forged 1 piece heads,  just the way we like um.  Follow the jump for detailed photos of the PW, #7 and #5 irons….

Titleist Japan

Above – PW shows minimal offset while the top line isn’t all that thick with nice rounded edges.

Above – better image of the lack of an undercut,  you don’t need an undercut with the short irons and you want something with a more mid trajectory designed around accuracy and manipulating approach shots.

Above – PW sole isn’t wide,  more medium size

New 2016 VG3 Titleist Irons

Above – Moving into the #7 iron you see an undercut design that has been CNC milled,  this works very well with the stronger lofts.  Low CG + Strong lofts = penetrating mid trajectory with extra distance & forgiveness.

Above – notice the CNC milling marks within the cavity.

Above – Beautiful face shape on the #7 iron

DSC07347-Edit

Above – the #7 has a thicker top line than the PW yet not chunky,  the rounded edges make the shape very attractive and hides extra size well.  The heel to toe length is not long it’s on the shorter side.

Above – #7 sole is perfect for the mid handicapper

Above – #5

DSC07384-Edit

Above – #5 has a more shallow face height for a lower CG making the long irons very easy to hit

DSC07394-Edit

Above – very nice amount of offset for a long iron

DSC07408-Edit

Above – I’m happy they didn’t make a wide sole long iron

Very interested in the VG3 irons! I see there are 2 types. What is the differences between them?

Wow these are beauties. I have the TMBs waiting a long time for them and absolutely love them. But these are intriguing. I see that these are forged while TMB are stainless steel. So these must have a softer feel at impact. Very intrigued…

I second that post – I too am intrigued by the VG3…I was close to pulling the trigger on a T-MB / AP2 combo set and then this post + pics came up…

    Dang you TSG! :)

I am only worried about the VG3s looking a little oversized, like the AP1…can anyone set my mind @ ease and give me some feedback?

    Thanks guys, TK

Im in the exact same predicament. Been eying out the TMBs for a while but reluctant to pull the trigger due to the back order on these. Now I read this post and Im happy I waited.

So yes TSG, please advise the comparison in size of the VG3 vs TMB.

Well, I just pulled the trigger on a set of barely used 2016 VG3 (4-PW)from a fellow TSGer.

Got the heads yesterday and I have to say they look stunning. And the best part (before hitting them of course) is that they are not too big – in fact, I’d say they are the same size as the Titleist AP2 or T-MBs.

I will shaft them with the excellent Nippon Modus3 Tour 120 shaft. Can’t wait to hit them this weekend. I will post my experience with these babies next week.

        Cheers
        TK
