Ozik Program 130 Iron Shaft Reviews
Ozik Program 130 Graphite Iron Shafts

The Ozik Program 130 Graphite Shafts are not designed as an alternative to steel shafts but rather to replace it!  That’s a pretty bold thing to say but from the perspective of someone who has extensive experience with both steel and high end graphite shafts I do buy into that.

Here’s what we know, PGA, JPGA, and LPGA tour players with fast swing speeds can indeed get along with graphite iron shafts. Although not many use them we do know that they can spec out as stiff or stiffer than X-100’s with the right build. In my personal experience I gained lot’s of distance and consistency with graphite iron shafts from Crazy Shafts & Daiwa’s Roddio brand. Now I’m excited to try the new Ozik Program 130 shafts.

Program 130 Irons Shafts by Matrix

Lead Designer for Matrix Shafts Daniel You has produced what Matrix say’s is his finest shaft to date.  Created with the desire to provide 2009 like spin control with 2010 USGA approved grooves.  It’s a Tour Optimized shaft, so we can shed the stereotypes of graphite shafts being for older people or slower swingers all together.  The Program 130’s by Ozik are supposed to have more stability, more control and tighter dispersion than even steel shafts.  Spec’s Below…

    Until the day comes when a graphite iron shaft costs $13 like a steel shaft does, they will NEVER replace steel. Especially when these run $90 each! I’d love to try them but never will until I win a lottery.

    +1. even tho they add some distance over steel those graphite shafts that can match steel specs in stiffness, torque, etc cost a fortune. imho they just no good in terms of price/performance right now compared to steel. i’d love to go graphite as well but not until they drop to a reasonable price.@Rob:

    So what is the point in this graphite shaft that hits like a steel? Does it increase distance due to a stronger kick than the steel. i don’t mind spending more for these but i want to know what i will gain.

    for starters you can get more distance simply because the shaft is lighter thus you can swing the club faster with same power applied. the faster the club goes at and post impact the longer your distance will be. all other characteristics being equal between steel and graphite that is. here Tourspecgolfer is saying based on what he got from the manufacturer these have better characteristics than steel on top of that. nobody can tell what you personally will gain tho and if its gonna be worth the money for you or not.@Frederick:

    Thanks for the comment Anton, on two occasionsI have had less distance with lighter weight steel shafts than graphite shafts that were equal to heavier. One was NS950 vs Roddio I-10 the other NS1150 vs Crazy LY Iron Shafts.

    Blades + Graphite work very well also for me. helped me get back distance on mishits where steel would serve me a fat penalty.

    Nippon seem to be softer in general. i have 1150 in X and they dont really feel like X. anyway its tough to compare 1150 to Crazy LY if i understand Crazy LY specs correctly ie torque numbers for LY are ~ double to that of 1150, as there is no LY in X. so it might give you distance but you gonna sacrifice control for that, right?! regarding getting distance on mishits i’m not sure i follow. if you miss sweep spot does it still go dead straight or it goes go farther than steel mishit but deviates? i’m curious.@Tourspecgolfer:

    Hi Anton, Your correct in most cases. I am not an Ozik fan boy and I have never tried these new Program 130 shafts but what I can attest to is:

    NS950 Stiff = 98g 1.9tq
    Roddio I-10 = 105 2.4tq
    (Roddio was tighter dispersion + longer distance)

    NS1150 Stiff = 116g 1.7tq
    Crazy LY Iron Shafts 77g 2.9tq
    (Crazy was tighter dispersion + longer distance)

    An amazing combo for me in the past was Miura MB5003 blades w/Roddio I-10’s. Before I shafted them with the I-10’s they had NS1150 Stiff.

    The graphite I-10’s not only made impact feel softer, it increased distance on off center hits. It could have been all in my head but I honestly still feel that way.

    I have not tried low end graphite in irons just the fancy stuff.

    interesting. not sure how it works but if it works better for you that is the only thing that matter, right ?! i would love to try one of those high end graphite iron shafts one day for myself but like i said what they cost right now would be a pricey experiment for me :( by the way i have the same blades with 1150 so what you said makes it even more interesting to me tho i have to say i really like 1150 as it is so anything else graphite has to be way better to justify the price.@TourSpecGolfer:

    How much are these? What i’m getting from the post is that is to replace iron shafts for more control and tighter straigher shots. I’m wondering if there is also somewhat of a kick to it like most of the graphite iron shafts I’ve used.
    Also i noticed the weight is in the 110g range so heavier than most graphite shafts.

    THE major advantage of graphite is less vibration than steel. Because most people don’t think about using graphite they don’t consider this. However graphite shafts saved my golfing life as I had given up due to tendonitis. Graphite in irons cured me. That’s why they stopped making aluminum tennis racquets. Its why they will stop making steel shafts when graphite gets cheaper.

    @UKPRO:
    This makes sense. I have tendonitis and shoulder problems that ache by the middle of the back 9. Don’t think i’ll be willing to spurge on these and I probably dont fit the swing type either.

    Sounds like you lost distance with the Program 130 shafts in your longer irons?

    Pretty noticeable distance gain actually. Especially in the longer irons.

    Your Message@TourSpecGolfer:
    @TourSpecGolfer:“…
    these shafts could use more roll out in the longer irons” sounds like overall distance was lacking?

    Tourspecgolfer,

    I wonder how this shaft fits into the Onoff forged head or my Yururi kmp-0107 head. I did try 6i mp53 with 130 Stiff at golfsmith and it feels great;however, others said that the 130 plays stiffer than flex, do I have to go down to 5.5 flex since my 6i ss is 78mph?

    Thanks a lot

    When some one searches for his required thing, so he/she needs to be available that in detail, therefore that thing is maintained over here.
