Fourteen V5 Wedge Review
Another outstanding wedge hits the market this week with the new Fourteen MT-28 V5 Forged.  I have had over a half dozen encounters with this new stick over the last couple of months and I’m very impressed.  The design is what makes it special, their goal was a higher CG for tight and accurate shots.  They raised the Center of Gravity by design via a channel across the back face.  Combine that with it’s reverse taper grind which adds more mass near the top blade which also raises the CG point which in return creates a more stable low trajectory.

Fourteen Golf was originally a design company that did design work for top U.S OEM’s not to mention many Japanese OEM’s.  In 2009 they were sold to Daiwa the large parent company of ONOFF golf.  The acquisition appears to have gone well as Fourteen did not pause for a second in new product production.  The ST-110 driver, SF-410 fairway wood, & V5 wedge are their latest new items and scheduled for release very soon.

the MT-28 V5 Forged  sneaks into the top 5 and I can comfortably reccomend it to those in the market for a new wedge. To read my full review and to see high res in hand images please click “Read More” to continue on…

Fourteen Golf V5 Wedge

When you hit the V5 you will notice a very stable and strong ball flight.  For those who hit wedges too high this head coupled with the right shaft and tune can really straighten things out for you.  I noticed a lower ball flight immediately within the first few shots on a grass range. This was against my current gamers the Crazy 2010 wedge.

In terms of feel it’s pretty good, not stand out but on par with most other quality forged wedges.  It’s not what I would consider feeling soft but more of a muted/firm vibration at impact, a good FORGED feel no doubt.  My personal flavor would call for an S400 slightly counter balanced or a good graphite wedge shaft at a 1/4″ short.

I believe this wedge is very versatile, it’s grind is unlike most on the market, it combines a thin sole with a nice heel relief and just enough trailed edge removed to let you make in hand adjustments.  The amount of spin it produces is pretty good but most new wedges have that extra hold on the ball until worn in.

I can tell the grooves on this one were still fresh.  The grooves are the new future USGA approved version.  I would much rather have the older box grooves but what can ya do, I guess I should start getting used to it.

In regards to availability and specs. Fourteen is rolling out 9 loft/bounce variations with the most popular lofts having two choices. Swing weights are solid with the  NS950 coming in at D1/D2 and Dynamic Gold at D2/D3. Click on the thumbnails below to see more in hand images of the new Fourteen V5 Wedge.
