  • What's in the Bag?:
Vega Raf-CM blades 4-pw. Srixon forged Z-uti 2 iron. Callaway hawk eye titanium 4W with Superio Shaft. Tourstage X-drive 703 with Crazy LY-02 Xstiff. Vega DAF with Miyazaki Kusala Black 72X. Rife 2-bar blade. Oakley Bag.
I went in to my local club fitter here in Phuket today to check out the newly arrived Superio Mugio full length 80T shafts. Even these supposedly "impossibly cheap for being the real thing" cost around 550 dollars here in Thailand, so not what i would consider "cheap" even though very reasonable for an 80T shaft. Now, I spoke to the club fitter and he confirmed that they are designed by Superio but are made by UST/Mamiya according to Superio's specs..He got this info from the official distributor in Bangkok. I even saw the boxes with UST/Mamiya stickers all over them, and the stickers where on the shafts themselves as well.

Now, I find it IMPOSSIBLE to believe that Superio has managed to get UST/Mamiya in on some 50T/80T hoax..You have to be really big on conspiracy theories to believe that.

Or does any body think that Superio is faking the UST/Mamiya stickers on the boxes they arrive in? That would be quite a stretch too. Mamiya already uses 50T in their Attas 2 shafts right? So, not shocking that they might be able to produce a full length 80T shaft for a price similar to a Fire Express. My guess is that 80T has become less hard to get by for some reason.

On the latest Mugio shafts there is no Made In Japan written on them, but they do have the "S for shaft" symbol on them. So, the quality should be there, but not certain that they are MIJ?

The tourqe numbers are incredibly low, 2.0 in X and 2.1 or 2.2 in Stiff flex. This coupled with an 80T shaft should be quite special/different feeling. Apparently they CPM out as pretty stiff too..I didnt buy or try it, so not sure how it would work out feel wise. Good or bad I dont know, but different for sure?

Now, maybe this post belongs here in the US non JDM section, but they are most likely "the real deal" T-wise and quality-wise.

UST doesn't produce their shafts in Japan. I'm pretty sure its Bangladesh or something. They could be sending Japanese 80T/50T to their factory over there.

If it were 80T and rolled in Japan it may cost a couple hundred or more extra..

Thats what i thought too, since the Axiv shafts are made in Bangladesh. But the older 36T and 50T versions, that they dont really make or sell anymore, have Made in Japan written on them, so maybe they have changed supplier/subcontractor when they went to 80T, because of the cost you mentioned.

I play a Superio FW36T in my 4+ wood, the older version they made before the Mugio shafts. Also an amazingly stable, smooth and long shaft..Best FW wood shaft i have ever it so far. Been thinking about the driver shafts ever since I installed it.

Did you buy the Mugios in Sweden? Must have been pretty pricey?

Attas is still made in Bangladesh. Mamiya does not produce ANY of their shafts in Japan as far as I know, so the superios are certainly not made in Japan.

The latest info I got is that the Nano series where indeed made in Japan, from another subcontracted maker, but that the Mamiya-made Prototype 50 and the latest Mugio80T are not. Japanese fiber though, but (apparently) rolled in Thailand. Does Mamiya have a facility in Thailand?

I am not familiar with a "Nano" series from Mamiya however I just checked with UST Mamiya and every single shaft in its current lineup including all Axivs, Attas, every single ProForce are all made in Bangladesh. They do not it appears have any manufacturing done in Thailand.

Ok, Bangladesh it is then. Dont they have any production done in China? NANO ia the Superio shaft series. Probably not made by Mamiya, these where the earliest Superio Shafts.
