How would characterize the offset in this iron? Minimal, Modest, Too much? Do you believe the offset to be an issue for playability (Shot Shaping)

Thanks for any insights,

Jon

Hi Jon,

Very minimal offset but one thing you should consider, this irons original design is back before 2002 as a Miura Giken model. Later it was adjusted and used in the U.S line up. Good quality club but if your going to lay down the coin you may want something designed more recently.

I have this set, and like all Miura's it does feel like butter. At the same time, this is miura's most forgiving iron. However, in the grand scheme of things, it is not -that- forgiving. Miura goes on the process of whatever suits your eye, not what you should play.

I am starting to like the blades more and more, but with the amount of coin I've dropped on the 102s I'm not going to change it for a while. I find it very easy to draw, but a little more difficult to fade.

Hope this helps,
Jon

Jon,
The part of your comment that I bolded with red font is quite interesting. What exactly does that comment mean? Also, are you considering the blades in pursuit of additional playability, or are you thinking, 'If the 102s are not that forgiving then why not the blades?'

Let me give you some reading material...
http://www.mygolfspy...-irons-reviews/
Review of CB501s. Will also mention that during his fitting (which you should get if you are getting Miuras), that if you like something, you should play it.

http://golf wrx/forums/topic/383206...age__hl__blades
A thorough discussion on beginners with blades.

http://miuragolf.com...ies57_blade.asp
Miura's own take on the blade discussion (small print, just squint)

I have the 102s. Whatever it says on the site, it is -NOT- that forgiving as they market it to you as. It is a players cavity back, with a tiny bit more offset. But I will tell you this. If I hit anything with a bit more offset, a bit bigger topline, anything that is in the category of GI or SGI, I will launch that ball like it's no ones business.

The 102s were my first true set of clubs (yeah, I know...), before I was working off a set of whippy graphite shafts and club heads made from old melted pots and pans which were cast into club heads. I also play the R9 420cc head. The combination of these harder to hit clubs, have made me into a MUCH better ball striker in a SIGNIFICANTLY shorter time (or I would like to think).

That being said, I am still skeptical about the idea that beginners should start with blades. Yes, it will probably get you hitting the ball well quickly, but if you start hating the game, that is bad too. If this is your first set go with the 102s. If this is not your first set, then I recommend the 501s. If you are feeling adventurous the 202s. However, the 202s are not good for diggers so take note. Heck, neither are the 102s lol.

Good luck Jon,
Jon
