Sup people! My question(s) this thread, revolve around grips. Now, I know that grips are a very personal thing for each golfer, so I'm basing my questions more towards comparing grips. (USA vs. JP) This way, it helps to take out the "personal" fellings for a specific grip...well, that's the plan anyways. :p

The grips that have tried, mainstream wise, was Winn. The first time I went to my club fitter's shop, I was able to hit his personal KZG original wedge with a Winn grip on it. Now, I have no idea what grip from Winn was on the club, but I do know it was the best feeling I've tried so far since I started looking at clubs again.

Now, before you all say, "Well, just go for the Winn's if you like them that much.", I'm really trying to look at all my options, before I take the jump. I know one company can't 100% compare to another, but getting something close would be fine.

I'd really like to know what grips, whether J-Spec or domestic, are similar to the Winn's. I'd also like to know, what's probably the best bang for your buck in J-Spec grips themselves. Thanks tons and look foward to your replies.

Almost all Winn grips are a Proprietary blend of self skinning Polyurethane as far as I know. Typically they're sort of foamy on the inside and skinned on the outside which I think is decent for cold weather and non humid regular temps. For hot and humid weather i like my Golf Pride New Decades but am moving to Iomic M62's to fit my hand size better. After years of playing standard grips, I've found I can relax a bit more with a smaller grip size. Nowon grips to me (using TPE I believe) are too soft and "twisty" for my liking. I'd strongly recommend, once you have your sizing down, to just try a few different options like Iomic Cord, Sticky and compare those to your winns. I've yet to find a really good solution as well as
the weather here in China can be really humid and certainly scorching at the same time. If you're satisfied with the Winn's why change?

The reason why, is because when I tried that club, it was nearly two year ago! I'll be getting my clubs built this year, so I'm trying to narrow down the grips that I might try. My club fitter will literally have me try different grips on this 6 iron he'll start me off with, so I want to help him out by narrowing it to at least two to three grips. Once I decide on the grips, that'll be it, 'cause I won't have the money or time for another set to try.

I'm using the Winn's as a "guide" if you will of what I like. Mind you, he has lots of differernt no-name grips I could use and I though I was sold on some precisions, but they didn't feel right with a glove on. I'll probably buy 4 grips from different companies, based on the variables I'm looking for and from there, we'll work on settling for one of those.

So yes, I know that I like the Winn grip I tried, but I want to me sure that it's definitelythe one that I want too. Thanks for the reply as well.

Playing conditions and requirements for how much torque you can deal with would help. How hard do you swing and do you have any problems with friction, etc. or are you looking for comfort / shock absorption?

For straight comfort, TPE grips are pretty good, but wear fairly quickly. (iomics and nowons).

HI , hope this helps. i have tried so many grips. and initially i like the nowons but i agree they are too soft and twisty. i still have them in my UTs and waiting for them to tear (yes they tear easily) before i change cause they are so expensive. Iomics last a long time and i have them in my irons, For woods i have different sets. I use the Lamkin crossline. they feel golf pride tour velvet but IMO they are more tacky.

Hi,

I have always used Golf Pride tour velvet and have found that if you wash them each week after you finish your round (or before your next) they suit all sorts of conditions and suit a glove as well.

That said I have just ordered some Masda slick fits and if you can wait will post a review once they arrive.

I have found that winn grips are too soft for me except for a putter which I use as we speak and love.

I have hit demos with dififferent iomic grips and thought they were all very good as well.

Hope that helps a bit will post again once I get the Masda's

I found the Nowons very nice, but I can understand why some would think they were soft. Maybe that was why I liked them as they allowed my hands to relax. I have tried a few of the Iomics and never liked them after having the Nowons. I have some Masda slicks coming. I hope they will show this week.

Yeah, I'm definitely interested to see what the Masda Slicks have to offer as well. The design leaves a bit to be desired but am really curious about the feel and the "traction".

I received confirmation today that the grips are on the way from TSG, ( I ordered a kamui at the same time so had to wait for it to be made!) should have them in a couple of days and will let you know asap what they are like,

The Masada's look slick due to the minimal amount of design on it but when you pick them up you will notice your glove hand is practically stuck to it. Not in a sticky way but in a total traction kind of way.

I also look forward to the New low torque Iomics coming out in April, got to hold those at the golf show and really think Iomic has stepped it up, I can see those becoming our top seller very soon.
