6 posts in this topic

Golf.com went back and profiled what they believed was a definitive list of the top 20 golfers of all time. I was just looking through it and wanted everyone elses opinion on if the list was good, bad, wrong or right.

Here it is:

2. Tiger Woods, 283

3. Bobby Jones, 265

4. Ben Hogan, 231

5. Sam Snead, 208

6. Arnold Palmer, 199

7. Byron Nelson, 196

8. Mickey Wright, 142

9. Gary Player, 141

10. Walter Hagen, 124

11. Tom Watson, 120

12. Annika Sorenstam, 116

13. Harry Vardon, 106

14. Young Tom Morris, 91

15. Seve Ballesteros, 90

16. Babe Zaharias, 74

17. Gene Sarazen, 72

18. Lee Trevino, 68

19. Old Tom Morris, 62

Most of the great amateurs of the early 20th Century apparently did not qualify, but John Ball, Walter Travis, and Francis Ouimet would make my list along with Joyce Weatherford.

I would have loved to see Francis Ouimet on that list. Still though, for a more "modern" list, this actually was a lot closer than I thought it was going to be. You can tell quite a bit of research and knowledge went into it. I really do want to see this list in another 20 years, see how it changes.

Ooh, another good name that didn't make the list. Billy Casper over Nick Faldo? Putting Tom Morris on twice instead of Faldo? Good call man, good call indeed!
