I am looking to buy a new 3 wood and was looking for some feed back as to which one would be the easiest to hit off the tee and from the fairway or rough. I have heard good stuff about the Sonartec SS-02 and the Cleveland. Also, has anybody used the Knife or Tour Knife? Any feed back is appreciated. Thank you.

Cleveland 13* Maraging w/ steel shaft. Unbelievable. Fairway, Tee, Rough N/P for this club.

Crazy long too!

God Bless

For the easiest and most consistent and because of that, I have to go with the 200 Steel rail top. There is a 2 Wood at 13* and a 3 Wood at 15*. Both are easy to hit, especially with the right shaft and I don't mean MAS. I had my 2 Wood (Joe Kwok design) redone and it's very easy to hit and gets up fast. Thank you Joe!

I'm very happy with my RC BBD Super Pro SS 15*. A bunch came off of the tour van in Japan earlier this year and were available on eBay at great prices. I got mine from Joe Kwok. It is very similar to the Sonartec SS-02, but sets up pretty square and has a very rich midnight black paint job.

The head was a little heavy once shafted (D-8 with a 43" Fuji Vista Tour Series 70 S flex), so we ground off some weight to get it to D-3. In the grinding, we blunted the leading edge so it wouldn't dig too much, which I had heard they were prone to do.

I just use it off the tee and from the fairway; in the rough, I'll use my 19*.

BTW, I just got a Nakashima NP-1 driver this week, played 27 holes with it yesterday and liked it a lot. If I were still in the market for a 3 wood, I'd definitely demo the Nak fairway. The stock face angle is 0.5* closed, but they say they will hand pick a square one if you want.

How much do you think the nakishima would be with an Aldila NV? I'm trying to keep my new club purchase under $250 if possible.

I've been totally satisfied with my R580 3 wood. It's crazy long off the tee (I've hit it 270 multiple times at the range) and sweet from the fairway. I'm not sure what they go for these days but I stopped searching after adding it to my bag. Oh, and like FAQ pointed out you'll want to lose the MAS shaft in favor of something that better fits your swing.

I have tried various 3 woods with liiltle succuss until noe. I would suggest giving thre Mizuno MP-001 3 wood a try.Works well from the tee and fairway.

I love my Cleveland Maraging 3 wood, it does everything for me, great distance and accuracy, even with the steel shaft!

i've had sonartec's itb for close to 3yrs now but needed more forgiveness so i'm swapping between a ss-04/PI and a cally sh+/nv95...
putting a kasco FS3 itb which will probably take the top spot.

The Nakashima 15 degree 3 wood is the best I've hit for distance and forgiveness. I have the Apache MFS 75 shaft on it.

You are headed in the right direction with the Cleveland. A very strong and easy club to hit off the tee and from the deck.

I recently put at 13 degree TM V Steel in my bag. Took a little getting use to, as it plays a little different from the Steelhead plus I have played for 3 years, but it goes and sits behind the ball well in the fairway. It has a lower ball flight also. Actually, it reminds me of the Cleveland!

Good stick,

Mfinger

I really love my Sonartec 3 wood, this the things are rocket launchers off of the tee and are pretty easy to hit off of the deck and from the rough. Looks great too at a adress, nice black head. Has a low penetrating ball flight which is something i love off the of the tee, but can easily be hit high when needed. Easily the best 3 wood i have hit and will not come out of the bag. I have noticed it with all Sonartecs, great heads that is for sure.
They can be found for a good price now adays to with a couple minutes of checking out good 'ol ebay.

I can get you Nakashima sets up w/ any shaft or aldilla NV. How ever at $250 brand new, No body will make money on this. You have to find a used one w/ that shaft on it for that price.

How about Callaway Steelhead line... if your not a fan of the closed setup get someone to set it up to your liking.

My 3w is my go to club... 5w just seems to not get much play since my love affair with my 3w was in full bloom when I got the 5w. I seem to hit it better off the fairway than the tee... when i do tee it up the ball is only a 1/4 inch higher than it would be sitting on the tee box.

Its definitely the club that I pull out on the range when nothing is feeling right. It is a club that I can really put some mustard behind and still get a result that is on target.

Sorry I just had to spread the word since it has brought me so much joy... and when I say joy I mean eagle putts on par fives.

however I only made one all year... :o
