I always like to turn up at my local range with one of my friends. However, when I wanted have a round at the course, I always prefer to go solo. I feel I can concentrate more. Of course there's both advantages and disadvantages.
So how about you? Which one do you prefer? |

When its to the range it used to always be solo. Now that my son plays and he's 9, if he's off school he'll almost always go. He's good too, he'll just sit on the putting green and putt for hours. He'll hit shots, but he loves to putt and he knows if we're out there I'm working on things and don't want to be bothered. He's good about that.
While I do love to go out alone on the course, there's really nothing better than going with friends. That's my preferred round now. I don't typically like to play with others I don't know. You just never know what you're going to get. Don't always like the "box of chocolates" theory out on the course. |

On the range I am usually alone or helping a friend. On the course, I enjoy playing with a group of friends, or a group of strangers. I enjoy the strangers because of the personalities they bring to the game. Some are constantly joking around, especially about their lack of skill; some get upset and state they have never played this badly, but swings do not lie; and some, especially some of the younger players, are a joy to play with because they hit the ball so well. They are so smooth and so long and have no fear.
So, I guess I am saying, I just like to play wherever I get the chance and with anyone that will put up with me. Doc This post has been edited by The Doc: Jun 18 2008, 10:04 PM |

I prefer to practice alone. Fewer distractions. As for playing, I go out as a single most of the time und usually get paired up with someone. 98% of the time it works out ok. If I do end up playing alone it really doesn't bother me.

I agree with The Doc. Anytime on the course is a good time...
The mixed bag of personalities keeps it interesting. But when pressed for time, nothing beats being the first one off the tee for a solo round... |

I almost always go to the range alone. I usually want to focus anyway, so I like it.
I play courses often with a friend, or solo. Typically when it's with friends, it is kind of distracting, and a beer may show up at some point... not good for the game ;) If I want to focus, it's solo. Char |

I'll some time take my kids to the range.
These days I mainly play with friends on the course and enjoy the commeradery, however ever since I was a kid I 've had no problems playing late afternoon by myself. I can go out there and just chill out and have some fun content with my own company and the golf course. |

I like going to the range alone more than I like playing alone. Reason is on the range I can concentrate myself better... but if I get stuck in a group of rude golfers or anything like that it will ruin my entire round of golf... so I really prefer to play with friends.

I go both ways.... But I find that I golf better when there are friends around and we discuss anything other than golf.
I actually enjoy going out to the range and the course more w/people, meeting new people and mingling w/the same ol people is always "GOOD FUN." I don't golf for a living and when I go get to go out on the course, I'm always in a 100% mood to meet and talk story. I normally shoot way HIGHER scores, if I'm alone and thinking about what I'm doing. |

I normally go to the range on my own and sometimes with my boys.
Like the post above, I normally squeeze in a quick nine very early in the morning or just after dropping off my boys at the school. Also, I don't play on weekends. It's more enjoyable though when playing with someone else. |
