Mizuno Japan introduces it's all new and improved Quad shaft for 2008. Through heavy analysis of flex and swing types and transition at the top, Mizuno offers the the new Quad in two models, the Butt Standard for slow to average tempo swingers and the Butt Stiff for those with fast tempos and aggresive transitions. The Quad which features a special four axis carbon design including double layer carbon and ring patterns to store power and minimize energy loss. Made to pair well with the new large 460cc heads available today, the two different models feature different stiffness throughout the shaft to match the players swing tempo allowing him or her to square the face on impact with full energy transfer from the swing. On the heavier and stiffer flex Quads for quick tempo players, Mizuno has paired the stiff butt with stiff tip for max control and to help reduce balls going left.

These are actually pretty good shafts. Nice to see them in the proshop.
T, maybe you can help me. Swing Speed = 100-105 mph Ball Speed = ~150 mph Launch Angle = 13-14 degrees Back spin = 3300-3500 rpm Driver distance = 245 yards carry Tempo = Fast Transition = Smooth Usual ball flight = Med Desired Flight = Med Desired Weight = Mid 60-70' grams Bad shot = depends...slice right Current shaft specs = Accra/Axiv XT70 Stiff. This has been my goto shaft. I can get between 250-310 yards total depending on the power I put in. I have tried a Mizuno Quad 7 Butt Standard stiff flex At 50% swing, I can get about 240-250 total yards. With 3/4 swing, shaft is too weak for me and sprays. What do you recommend?

Gocchin, looking for a possible replacement for the stock shaft in my MP-600 rather than paying big bucks for a new club. I like the MP-600 head just fine. Like the idea of having a Mizuno shaft since they are as good quality wise as other JDP. Here are my spec's SS 92-95 DD 225-240 carry Tempo Regular Transition Smooth Lag Minimal Usual flight medium/high Desired same Weight not particular Bad shot right Current shaft Fuji E360 Looking for distance, control, feel Suggestions?? Thanks, Leonard. |

Thanks, Leonard. Leonard, Sorry to give unsolicited advice but the Japan stock shaft in the MP600 is VERY VERY good. The model is the MD1. 57-59 grams. Extremely stable, flat ball flight. I bought a MP600 head only and have tried a Fit on Siq. Not as good. I'm installing a YSQ next. I just should've ponied up for the one with the Japan stock shaft. |

XXIO,
I dont think Leoanard has the JDM MP-600 head. He mostly liked has the US version as he has a Fuji E360.. Anyways, I have a feeling Gocchin will reccomend a Quad 6 or Quad 7 Stiff Butt Standard depending on his weight preferrence. If you have the Fuji E360 stiff, it will definitely be stiffer than a Quad 6/7 stiff Butt standard (based on my personal experience). |

I saw he had the E360. I have hit both. Night and day. The Japanese MD1 I would rank up there with the $300 aftermarket shafts.
I was thinking if he really likes the MP600, he could sell his current set-up and purchase the Japan version. |

Thanks Fe, you sure you got a quick tempo and smooth transition? (^_^) It usually works quick tempo turns into an aggressive transition... but you slice too.... interesting! By any chance do you use a lot of wrists or do you swing with your whole body. Do you ever hook the ball? If at only 3/4 swing you're losing control of the ball on a butt standard you can definitely try a butt stiff. An X Flex butt stiff would be too much for your swing as it's rated for 110mph and up. A stiff may work as you have already mentioned. You've got some serious backspin going too. Here is another scenario, if you do indeed have a smooth transition, you may be able to play a Quad 7 Butt standard X flex. The reason why is that while the Quad 7 Butt Standard features a softer tip, the X Flex is firm which could help reduce spin, the overall increase in rigidity should also reduce spraying. |

Thanks, Leonard. Hi Leonard, the Quad is a far superior shaft to the E360 "stock" shaft. With your smooth swing and bad shot right, I'd suggest a Quad 5 Butt Standard in SR flex. I think this could really work for you as it's lightweight enough for you to swing fast, stable enough to be accurate and the softer butt will give feel while the softer tip will combat the right. |

That's not a bad idea actually......wonder what that Japan version MP-600 runs in US dollars? The store I'm a regular at sells the Japan version with the MD1 at about $500 todays exchange rate. (undiscounted, I usually get 10-15% off) but there is also a promo where you get a $100 gift certificate for any Miz product. Kinda steep but the way I hit the Japan version, it is costing me more to have experimented. If my YSQ experiment doesn't work out. I'm buying that and using the GC for the F60 Japan version. Again lightweight but very stable shaft. I hated giving the demo back for both clubs :( Since it is not the latest in the Japan product line (JPX-E) it should be cheaper now in Japan. Chris should be able to give you a great deal. I have a 2 day stopover on the way to Toronto. Time to check luggage restrictions. |

Thanks for the reply. Sorry my backspin should be 2300-2500rpm. 3300 is kind of high (IMG:style_emoticons/TSG_Smileys/atsg_smilie_roll.gif) Hmm. You may be right. I think I have a quick tempo with an aggressive transition. In terms of body and arms, tough to say. I'd send you a few videos of my swing but they are 13mb each. Let me know and maybe I can send you my video for your analysis. (IMG:style_emoticons/TSG_Smileys/tsg_smiley_crazy.gif) Fe, you sure you got a quick tempo and smooth transition?
