Guys i tested both my g-field putters today for the very first time. my initial experiences are quite surprising. First of i got a premium zone 1 and a leap. i got the leap only becasue it was cheap not becasue i wanted it. was so excited to try my premium zone 1 as well.so my initial impressions on both are.

Premium zone 1:
Looks: as expected from an anser. lovely inserts
feel: very good and perfectly balanced. original grip virtually melted in my hand, crisp but not so soft
roll: slight skip and would leave the hole short

Leap:
Looks: alien, batman looking design. not as bad as leap m. nice inserts
feel: awesome and extremely well balanced. no twisting on putting stroke. weight is perfect. aiming sights couldnt have been better designed.
roll: this is da bomb! i am not a good putter but i was two putting most of the time. ball left the face without a skip and the feel at impact was just unique and special.

i was going to use my premium zone first but lent the Premium zone to my dad becasue he refuses to try anything that is not anser style. hence i would be using the leap instead:( he liked the weight, feel and looks of the putter but gave it back to me after 1 hole. there was something about it that dint quite hit it for him. which was surprising becasue i was expecting him never to return it to me after playing with it. since we only had two putters among us and he left his beloved ping anser at home he angrily asked for my leap with the intention of using it and ridiculing it. big mistake and the results surprised both of us.

Premium zone 1:Beautiful craftsmanship as expected, feel is robust and overall weight is perfect. address is very good and proportional but honestly im not an anser kind of guy but i gave this one a chance. played with it for about 9 holes and although my putts were totally straight i always came up short. greens were slow and notice that the ball takeoff was not so smooth. as i putt, the feeling was quite crisp but would have preferred something softer.

Leap: This by far is the best putter i have laid my hands on, i am pretty finicky about my putters and if i say ive found one im dead serious. i dissed the leap in the beginning on looks alone but take back everything i said about it. thanks Chris and troy for your original advice on the leap. this is really the "real deal" i have found my gamers. becasue of that i am confident in my putting from address and putt. at address it just feels right. design frames the ball perfectly and the alignment aides work better than any scotty newport detour, oddessey 2/3 ball, etc etc. and ive had all those before.

But the biggest surprise was my dad and two of his lifelong golfing buddies. 3 of them are die hard golfing addicts. in their late 50s and handycap in the low single digits. they have stuck with the venereable ping anser for years. they have tried everything from yes, scotty, mizuno, bettinardi etc etc but ditching em after about 3 rounds. you couldnt force those ping ansers out of their hands.

but after seeing my dad putt with the leap they both tried the putter in the putting green. and were immediate converts who have seen the light. Both too tried the Premium zone 1 but werent impressed enough to give up their pings. The leap just blew their whole putting mindsets away. so now i am ordering another 3 g-field leap putters for them.

This is the day when 4 bonafide ping anser users fell under the spell of the G-field Leap putter!! (IMG:http://www.tourspecgolf.com/forum/style_emoticons/TSG_Smileys/tsg_smiley_putter2.gif)

Lots of stuff

C, the Premium Zone should be just as soft. It's a question of finding the sweet spot. For me on my #1 it's a touch inside the sight line towards the heel.

i would assume the sweet spot would be in the middle? do different premium zone 1's have variance in sweet spot location? also for some reason an anser style just doesnt give me enough confidence as something with alignment aides. its my mindset i guess

i tweaked my leap a bit by adding 7 grams of lead tape on top center of the head and 3 grams at top part of the heel area. also counterweighted this by adding 4.5 grams on each side of the butt area near the inserts. now the putter has more heft and imho handles much better. i do not get head twisting anymore on my backstroke. will post pics of the mods when i have the time

Spoon, how's the putter now that you've "MacGyvered" it with the tape?

4.5 grams doesnt sound like much but adding it in each side of the butt area near the circular ingots has made a huge huge difference. as for the top part of the putter i also added some weight but more on the top end. will have pics so you can see the actual areas where lead was added.

prior to the lead tape i had some head twisting on the upstroke part. now there is virtually none. the overall feel is certainly heftier which is how i like my putters. because of the these i have grown more confident in my putting and overall has vastly improved. love this putter even more with the mods

Wow, that's a lot of tape you got there. Has it had any negative effect upon contact with the ball? Do you still have great feel with all that extra weight?

Thanks for posting this.

i actually really love the putter much more now with the tape. it has enhanced the feel of my putter. prior i had some head twisting on my upstroke, by adding ten grams in front part( 5 grams in middle, 4 grams toe part and 1 gram heel part) and 4.5 grams on each side of the butt, i have effectively made it more stable.

i gave this putter a new lease on life, i am really able to putt much better with the new mods. maybe its pscychological , it works for me though.

just picked up an old school eldik will compare this one to the leap

Cool. You made your very own "heavy" putter. (IMG:http://www.tourspecgolf.com/forum/style_emoticons/TSG_Smileys/atsg_smilie_roll.gif)
