(IMG:http://www.tourspecgolf.com/forum/style_emoticons/TSG_Smileys/tsg_smilie_love.gif) What can I say... These are the sweetest irons I have hit, period. I hope that there are no softer irons for me out there, or else I will be spending more money, wait, I'm out of money! I am going to try to make this review as helpful and sincere as possible, with no bias towards them. I purchased a combo set (type s 3/4 irons and type j 5/pw) from a Japanese rep of Epon in Thailand, from a place called Golf Crafts. They come with NS Pro 1150 Stiff. I'm not a good hitter of long irons, and can't hit hybrids that well, so I decided to go with the more forgiving type s long irons. The feel is no match for the Type Js because of the undercut. The type j is very rewarding when a shot is pured, but when i hurry my downswing, I tend to get a toe-miss, and this can severely hurt your distance. Overall distance is average on all irons, but I guess everyone here agrees that long-hitting irons aren't the point. I normally hit a 7-iron 160 yards, but a pretty solid toe-hit wouldn't reach 150. In my older set of ping I3, a mis**t like that wouldn't lose too much distance. These are not that forgiving, imo, they are almost like blades, but are so rewarding for those who are great ball strikers (my ball striking is normal joe, but my greatest attribute is recovery, i get in LOTS of trouble in the course for obnoxious drives (IMG:http://www.tourspecgolf.com/forum/style_emoticons/TSG_Smileys/tsg_smiley_crazy.gif)
Many of my colleagues including myself feel that the sound that the type J produces is quite different from forgings of other brands, like Taylormade or Mizuno. Haven't hit TM and MIZZY stuff, sure they are great irons, but the sound is different. I can't tell which is the better sound, but the epons are so muted. The shape of the club and size is just a confidence builder. They are not paper thin and not bulky, and it DOES look better in real life. I saw them on TSG, but didn't fall in love with them. Saw the real thing and it was different. Another thing, if some of you guys are the strong ones with 110+ swing speeds, you should try them with Dynamic X100s. A friend has the type js with this shaft, and its really solid if you can handle the weight for 18 holes. Well, if anyone wishes to know more about these irons, feel free to PM me. For those who aren't sure whether they should purchase a set or not, you should at least give it a try. I am quite sure that most will enjoy them, if not love them. (however, nobody knows the Epon brand, "What brand is that!? Got it at a flea market huh? Never heard of 'em". I get this quite a lot in Bangkok. Those who know the brand here, they just really like them (IMG:http://www.tourspecgolf.com/forum/style_emoticons/TSG_Smileys/tsg_smilie_spit.gif) |

I have at least 15 rounds played with the EPON Type J's so I felt it was time to leave my thoughts on these Irons.
The sound of the Iron is like no other. No ping, clank, dink, pink... Nice muted thud. even the sound is soft. The Feel.... Like no other. So incredibly soft. but still very solid. My biggest grins are from hitting a shot and feeling these Irons. FEEL is probably the single biggest part of a Club that I'm lookin for. These are Butta. Forgiveness is very good for a Players style cavity back. Yes they are made for the better ball striker but an occasional mis hit is not that far off. Feedback is very good also. You can feel the mis**ts. Helps you correct them. Consistancy is unmatched. I am able to hit the ball the same distance with these Irons with ease. Being able to count on how far your club is going to hit the ball is priceless. They have improved my Confidence and my Game. Actually made the Game more enjoyable. IMO: The Best Players Cavity Back Irons are the EPON Type "J"s |

Great update Idrive. These are the famous Copper Type J's of course, right? I actually have two sets. The Copper set I play with and a regular NiCr finish set I practice with. As far as feel goes I have to admit that I'm not sure that I can tell them apart. They are set up exactly the same. I prefer a darker finish and the Copper frames the ball much better. No glare and they are drop dead gorgeous. (imo) It's funny. Initially people don't get to excited about your clubs.. But after you pound a few out there and have a good round going... all of a sudden, gotta be the clubs!!! Long live incredible feel when you hit a Golf shot. You can have the pro I or type J and yes its simply a badge over the PRO I for the USA market. |
