Hey,
Although I have a Ping Rapture 3 wood in my bag, I am wondering if anyone of you have tried hitting the latest Callaway BigBertha 3wood? Accdg. to Golf Digest, PING Rapture 3 wood is the Biggest at 229cc clubhead, but it only landed at the silver rating. However, Callaway Big Bertha 3wood became this year Hot List due to its 200cc clubhead. Has anyone tried hitting both clubs? |

I have hit both a couple of weeks ago on the range, basically to use them as a comparison for my new Alpha Version 5 three wood. I hit about 20 balls with each and so my comments have to be taken in context of the limited use I put them to.
Both woods performed well off the tee and off the mat, the Ping was the longer by a few yards, the Callaway had tighter dispersion for me, both were fitted with stiff shafts. Personally I found the Callaway easier to use, but both were good clubs, long, reasonably accurate and easy to use. Not sure of the retail price point, but would expect them to be about £60 ($110) cheaper than my Alpha Version 5 with Axiv V shaft, which was 25 yards longer and much tighter dispersion and much easier to shape. You pay your money and make your choice, you also get what you pay for! Nick |

The Alpha V 5 hybrid is 140cc, not sure how this compares with OEM's, but it looks similarly sized to TM's or Adams hybrids, the performance difference may well be that the Alpha head is made of 15-3-3-3 Titanium.
The V5 three wood is 250cc volume, which is quite a bit bigger than the Ping, although it doesn't look big at address perhaps because it is all black ( even the face) and is very well proportioned, it is also made of 15-3-3-3 Titanium. It is equally brilliant off the deck as off a tee, I was hesitant to use it off the fairways because of the head size at first, but it is quite simply the best FW I have ever used - and i've used a lot, my current collection of FW's numbers 10 clubs! |
