This is my first post to this great forum. I have been so impressed during the past week or so learning about all of the great Japanese irons out there I am dying to try them. I have hit so many clubs over the past five years that I am looking forward to sharing some of my thoughts and learning from everyone else on here as we continue our quest for the best iron ever made.
Anyway, I spent considerable time hitting the new X Forged by Callaway with Project X 6.0 shafts today. I am a solid 7 handicap and have extensively hit and played with Mizunos MP 32's and Taylor Made 300's for each of the past two season. To me, the X Forged are extremely solid and as soft as any of the US clubs I've used. I have never considered Callaways (not even the X Tours) because of their clown like size. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by these. The top line is not super thin, but it is their thinnest by far and not as much of a distraction as I thought they might be. I found them to be pretty darn forgiving and there is no question that the PX shafts make a huge difference. I have Nippon shafts in my MP 32's and I have to say the PX shafts were an enlightenment. I had never really hit them before so I had no idea how well they complimented the clubheads. I also found these irons to be pretty long, partly because I felt like I had the right shaft and probably mainly because I hit them dead flush most of the time. They are easy clubs to swing. On the range, I hit these, the R7 TP's, MP 67's, and Titleist 755's (all had different shafts so it wasn't comparing oranges to oranges) and these were the class of the lot in my opinion. Before I pull the trigger on these, and based mainly on all of the reviews I've read, I am deciding between the X Forged and the Fourteen TC770's. They look like a super club, but I feel I need to have PX shafts in them so they will be costly. Has anyone hit the X Forged? What do you think? Greg |

Greg I would rate the X-Forged iron as the #1 U.S Domestic Iron on the market period. They are forged in Japan! Kudo's to callaway for using the best possible material and manufacturing. I have hit both, fourteens are a little softer, with a bit more offset yet with a more pleasing shape to my eye. we also have the PX flighted chrome shafts if you desire. |

i like the callway X-forge as well. for a 15 handicap like me, the X-forge is pretty forgiving, and at the same time, the feedback on bad shot will tell you whats going wrong. i like the whole balance with the rifle 6.0. i think its a good buy if money is an issue.

I have mixed feelings about the X-Forged, largely due to the shaft. With any Rifle shaft, I found that you either love them or hate them. I compared the X-Forged PX 5.0 to my MP60/32 Nippon 950S and Adams Idea Pro Forged BGR sets. The Adams were more forgiving of the 3, having a little more heel/toe length. I tend to miss towards the toe, so the Adams help in that regard. The MP60/32 are easier to swing due to their weight, and they mate well with these clubheads, particularly at my swingspeed. I liked the feel of the X-Forged on center hits, but I couldn't get past the feel of the PX shaft overall...very one-piece to me.
If I could get the X-Forged irons with Nippon 950 shafts it would be a no-brainer. Brian |

The X-forged are soft, laser straight and spin less than other irons out there. In fact, I've had to switch back to the ProVI regular when using them because of the lower spin rates. From address, they look more like a player's cavity back (i.e., Titleist 690.CB).
They have killer stock shafts (PX Flighted, not PX) - the 6.0s are a little softer than the Black Gold stiff and feel like a combo btw PX and TC S3. I don't play as much as I'd like these days. As such, the X-Forged are a great choice for me as my alternates because they are - overall - VERY forgiving for a player's iron. Match these with some Scratch JLM wedges and you have about the highest-quality retail set up available anywhere. |

I'm testing these out as well. Have to agree that the stock shafts are killer. Super smooth for me compared to the Tour Flighted I have in my irons. One thing though, I wouldn't recommend these for a digger. Pretty sharp leading edge.

I agree...these are some of the sweetest Cally's to hit the US market...but the leading edge is sharp...and us steep diggers of prime real estate cannot truly benefit from this quite excellent stick. I couldnt keep from hitting it high on the face :-( Sorry, these are not for me...but I am sure they are packed with plenty of play for sweepers/pickers of the ball who will truly benefit...IMHO.

I think they look really good but they're not for me. I found that they lack "feel" with the PX flighted 6.0 (this is actually the first time I tried the PX flighted, I had previously played the old PX shafts and was quite comfortable with them).
As beautiful as they are, my X-forged will be on it's way to Sweden to it's new owner soon. -Keng |

Granted, it's a little soft around here this time of year but as a prototypical digger/driver I'm having zero problems with these. They are nothing like my Scratch custom grounds (literally made for MY swing), but I'm not getting stuck behind them or hitting them up on the head. I'm off to the firm Bermuda of Hawaii this week (IMG:http://www.tourspecgolf.com/forum/style_emoticons/TSG_Smileys/tsg_smilie_laugh.gif) with the Callys and my Scratch wedges in tow. I'll have a more informed point of view then. |

I found the X-forged to be forgiving and soft. However, the leading edge is relatively sharper than the rest. Definitely not for diggers. Great for sweepers.

I now have a few rounds in with these irons. Absolutely great sticks! They are solid, soft feeling, and long. I love the PX Flighted shafts more and more each time I hit them.
Just my preference and opinion, not an insult to any Mizuno users, but these are much more suited to my game than the MP 60's. If you're looking this year for a new set, and you like forged CB type irons, look no further. |

Can you talk about the differences you found and why you think they are so much better? I am considering TT Black Gold shafts. My current and last few sets have been DG s300 soft stepped/ Thanks. |

I have played MP60's since they came out and am very interested in the Xforged. Can you talk about the differences you found and why you think they are so much better? I am considering TT Black Gold shafts. My current and last few sets have been DG s300 soft stepped/ Thanks. Sure, to me, there were a few differences - some were evident right away and others have been more subtle. First, though I definitely liked the MP 60's, slight mis**ts were not yielding anywhere near similar results as when I hit them pure. I am not saying they should always do that, but I found them a little inconsistent. The first thing you notice with the X Forged is that they are really soft on impact, and to me, much softer than the MP 60's. The 32's are closer in terms of feel, but not as soft as the X Forged either. Slight mis**ts I've found with the X Forged, have been predictable in terms of action on the ball and even distance. To me, the sweet spot on the X Forged seems a tad bit larger and therefore gives you the opportunity to make clean contact more often. So, that was a big difference. I love the PX Flighted shafts. They compliment the overall feel of these clubs quite nicely. I had Nippon shafts in my MP's and I did like those, but if I had to do it again, I would go with the PX Shafts. That's personal preference - |
