Any one have any feed back on this new release? I have one. Want some more reps with it but, overall, I would say Chris is absolutely right in that the driver is unlike any other Callaway has made to date. It looks a little different, sounds very different, feels very different, and performs better. I had the ERC side-by-side against an FT-3 and there was no doubt that the ERC was better all around for me. It feels softer at impact and the ball comes off the face faster (i.e., I didn’t notice any additional hang time between this and the FT3, it’s just when the ball landed it was farther downrange). How much farther varies, but the ERC 3 is clearly "hotter" Truth is, I’ve only had it for a week so I need more time to determine if/when it will be kicking anything out of the bag. The Hi-Bore continues to chase off many a competitor. As an aside, some people rave about the stock WD-1000 shaft from Graphite Design. While clearly well made, I thought it sucked for my swing and replaced it with an Axiv. |

I have one on order and will placing an Axiv-V 8072 in it. It will probably be a few weeks but I will definitely post a review for those interested.

Just some quick feedback for those interested. First round tomorrow but range sessions are very promising. Old driver was Nakashima 460 NP-1 with Diamana S-73 in x-stiff, 44 inches. Went with Callaway ERC3 with Axiv-V 8072 at 46.5 inches. As per Chris's suggestion went longer on the shaft in case I need to tip it later. Was using the Nak since last September. At that time I went to a lighter driver shaft to see if it would be better but now I know that was a mistake. After having hit the new club I'm glad I went back to a heavier shaft. It suits my swing better. First impressions of new ERC is that its a freakin hand cannon. I hit mostly nice gentle fades with it but its definitely hot. When it hits, it runs. My last driver was all carry and even when I hit a piercing shot with it, I got limited roll. This driver rolls out. It took a few swings to get used to the feeling of a heavier shaft. Having never been a fan of Callaway clubs, I really do like this one. It sets up nice, has a compact look to it, yet still inspires confidence. The sound is very nice. Not pinging or "too metallic" just nice and solid. It will take a few rounds to truly evaluate but all in all, will be a much better club than what I was hitting before. If I keep hitting like I am I might just leave the length of the shaft as is. I will write a more complete review later down the line for both the ERC and the Axiv-V.

One full round in today and as Higgins used to say, " Oh my GOD, MAGNUM!" :tsg_smiley_laughatyou:
Seriously though, I have gained 20 yards of carry easily increasing from 235avg to 255+. My spin problem which I had with previous set up has been corrected (Most likely due to Axiv-V). The ball is rolling out now and overall distance will depend upon firmness of turf. This driver is definitely hot. Combined with the Axiv-V and going back to a heavier shaft has definitely resulted in what I was looking for. Obviously in honeymoon period but I can say that I could become quite fond of this particular Callaway. This model is different in looks and sound. It really oozes quality and confidence. Flight pattern was low to mid and either dead straight or slight fade. My misses were all left pulls but that's my usual miss so I'm very happy with results. Shots today in round were better than those experienced at range. I feel I'm back to driving the ball like I used to a couple of years ago. Is the Axiv shaft available from Callaway or is this something we buy through Chris and we install it?

At this point, I do not know what shaft to get. Callaway JP has a large selection of shafts available for the ERC 3 Driver. Any thoughts from anyone regarding what they consider to be the best shaft available from Callaway for a smooth swinger such as me. About 95-100 swing speed.

Chris would most likely recommend the new Axiv-V or the Drew line of shafts. I like the original Axiv, for now, since I'm happy with the peformance of the Axiv in the W-505. Unless you're aggressive from the top of the swing, any shaft in the mid-60 grams range would be fine. BTW, don't worry about the listed CPMs.
For Sfgolfer & Blader-X, is the ERCIII a lower or higher spin head then the current or other drivers in the bag or used to be in the bag. I'm looking for a lower spin head, such as the J33r, but prefer something from Japan instead of US retail. Thanks. |
