You'll be surpised to hear what Tiger's packing in his driver right now. He's given up on the all-graphite shaft (like the Diamana). He's now using a BiMatrix shaft from True Temper. For those of you who don't know what this is, it's a shaft design that's a blend of graphite and steel. The majority of this shaft is graphite and the tip section is steel. You can see in the picture below the area where the graphite switches to steel.

It is NOT a Bimatrix from Truetemper. It is a Grafalloy prototype.

Bubba Watson uses the Bimatrix.

Tiger is using a Grafalloy prototype.

Since Graffaloy and True Temper are related companies it isn't that surprising to see a grafalloy version.

Yeah, it's the same shaft as the older True Temper version but with Grafalloy stuck onto it. Same shaft, different name. Bubba uses the higher launching version. Tiger has the lower launch shaft. But yeah, Grafalloy controls all the graphite shafts and True Temper has the steel end so I guess that's why the name is on it. BUT, on the golf coverage today, the annoucer gave the official word from Tiger about his new shaft and Tiger said it was a BiMatrix, so it's a BiMatrix Proto by Grafalloy. Anyway, is this a sign that we may see more blended shafts on Tour?

I don't know if you will see too many blended shafts on tour, but i'm sure some of the long hitters will probably be trying some out.

Shafts like the Bimatrix seem to work best for golfers with really fast swing speeds. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the longer hitters switch.

Yeah, I think it's the fact that the steel tip is really low torque. It allows the big hitters to give it a rip and still have that control, no nasty hooks.

He's been playing this since he had that wild day off the tees in Dubai.

Nissan Thread

Considering the way he hit at the hard driving La Costa and that he missed only three fairways yesterday, I think he's onto something.

I'm sure this new shaft of Tiger's still plays like an iron rod.................I remember the XXX Grafalloy Blue that he had in his Ignite 410.

It would have to be in order to support that head he's swinging. I doubt he's hitting an SQ you buy off the rack.

i have one of those graffaloys in my driver and it really has helped me hit the ball straighter and a little higher. i kill my driver with that shaft. and i bought it for 90 when the diamana is 278 and i like it a lot better than the diamana

This isn't fairly new. He's had this shaft in play for awhile. I think since start of the season. May have even put it in play near the end of last season. It seems to work for him sometimes. He's still spraying it.

There is a golf digest article that says Tiger's driver is heavy.

Good call sf, the shaft in my view is definetly there to support the heavy head weight.

The Grafalloy has been out of his driver for a while now, he's been back to the Diamana for at least two weeks, I think

You know what's funny. When the B-Matrix first came out, not too many people gave it a look. Now that Tiger is playing it, it seems to be a great shaft worth trying out. Just goes to show the hypocrisy of today's US comsumer. This shaft was awesome then and hasn't changed(except for the Grafalloy name and paint job). Sounds like Grafalloy pulled a fast one like UST did with the ProForce65(Laker shaft-25 year old, new paint). LMAO :tsg_smiley_laughatyou:
