I spent several hours yesterday testing both the B330 and this new Black MAX. To give you my criteria I'm 40+ 107ish SS and a 1.2 hdcp. My ball last year was the regular ProV1.

I tested the B330, Black Max and ProV1 head to head in three categories.

Driver, Mid Iron and 50 pitch. I used 6 of each brand random selection.

Driver:

I tested on two par 5's the first down wind the second into. (10-15 mph)

#1 B330
This ball is long. Of the 36 drives the B330 was longest, the Black Max and the ProV1 were very close. Into the wind I landed (ground is still wet here) one 280 off the tee. ProV1 #2 downwind, Black Max #2 intowind.

Mid Iron

#1 Black Max
This ball has a great feel and spun more than the B330. The ProV1 and the Black Max were very similar in terms of distance control.

Pitch
#1 Black Max
While maybe slightly firmer than the ProV1 I preferred the feel. Very similar spin and control. This is the weakest part of the B330 harder and less spin.

The ProV1 is a great ball and I look forward to trying the 2005 version.

That said for now I'm playing the Black Max. Very long, spin and control with out the harsh feel.

I just played 9 with a Black Max and was very pleased with the overall performance. The ball stayed white, did not scuff and had excellent distance ( about the same as Pro V1). It has nice spin and feels as good as the Pro V1 off the putter. I do not think it will replace the Pro V1 but this is a quality ball.

I played 18 with this ball last Tuesday and am switching from the U-Tri Tour. Very nice feel, I prefer a softer feel as opposed to a "click" or hard response. I did pick up distance, especially with the irons as this doesn't spin as much as the Precept ball. Where this ball really shown was on delicate chips on fast greens...much easier to control spin than with the Precept which had a tendency to not release when I wanted it to (bad ball bad ball)! I had 4 kick-in putts after touchy chips..with that kind of control I am switching as of now. Ball is much more durable than the Precept or the old Pro V1..my wedges don't remove paint. I will say the only thing I need to get used to is off the putter, a noticably harder feel than the Precept...nothing major but it sounds different and feels a tad bit harder. With that as the only negative I will adjust as the positive's make the adaptation worthwhile.

B330's aren't that great...yeah, there long, but the cover is horrible...with a couple wedge shots I was starting to tear the cover. The spin isn't that great. I got a box of free Max black's for buyin' an R7 at golf town, and I like them much more. Way more feel, and they pretty well go the same distance for me. (My SS is about 105.) Although I have a box of Nike One black's waitin' to be tried out. Curious as to how they compare to the Max black's? I'm gonna guess that there softer.
