I was planning on purchasing one of these two. Can anyone tell me what the major differences are, besides cosmetically. Is one better than the other and why? I know that the Red "X" has the GSS..but is that it?

putters are very personal, The two you are looking at are very different, one a traditional mallet the other a Neo mallet. You should first figure out what style you put best with first.

I've owned both in the recent past. Personally, the futura just worked out better for me. The biggest difference was with the Futura inside of five feet I didn't feel like it was possible to miss. The X left a little more uncertainty. I think it may depend on the putting stroke you prefer. If you use a straight back, straight thru the Futura will probably work out a little better. You might want to wait and see what the Futura phantom is going to look like after it comes to retail. It might be the best of both worlds.

Red x has a better feel If you want a more cleaner look go Red x. If you have a short putting problem and like light putters go with the Futura or you can get the weight plug for the Futura. Or better yet like Chris said GO Anser...

man is the redx, for me anyway. I was never a mallet user and I just think the futura is ugly as hell. I think there is a putter coming out though that is cross between the two.

I own a Futura and have tried the Red X. I like the feel and sound of the Futura better. The Red X feel pretty much like conventional mallet though admittedly looks much nicer. But beauty is in the eye of beholder and putting feel is a very personal thing. So, you should go and try both of them. However, I agree that the Futura seems to fit the straight-back-straight-through better.

If you don't want to find out how many nicknames your foursome can come up for the way the futura looks... then get the Red X.

If you don't care for traditional mallets then get the Futura

If you want to sink putts than get what works.

It's definately personal preference. If it looks good to your eye, use it. I've had both and as you can tell from my sig, the red x is still in the bag.

When I first got the futura, it seemed a little light. I didn't feel like I could get the ball to the hole. I added one of those weights to the bottom and "bingo". Everything was falling. After the honeymoon, I lost cofidence in it and couldn't make a putt to save my a$$.

I went back to the ole trusty Odyssey Rossie. When the X came out I picked one up. It's been in the bag ever since. Loads of confidence and a lot more control.

It's all about having confidence while standing over the ball.

I have owned both, the Futura just never felt right to me, the look never bothered me but it was not reliable for me on the shorter putts but I'm not sure why. I even bought a weight for it, it felt better with the weight installed but the Red X is solid, it is automatic for me from 4' and in. Distance control is also very good. Try and demo both if possible and go from there.
